With all due respect your response is a misinterpretation . Post #15 actually says the owners believe 6100 occupies exactly the same dimensional envelope as 6115 notionally of the same type. Which is not the same thing as NR having confirmed and accepted same.

I know that the route and loco for this trip have been confirmed by the person who should know exactly what will take place because it's his train. But I have to say that if, for whatever reason, the plan has to change I could think of a lot worse in 46100 going from Crewe to Carlisle and back via Shap on this trip. Plenty of opportunity for the Scot to remind us of what they can do rather than potter around via Sellafield for the view, nice though it may be..... in parts!

Does anyone know if using the Hellifield to Carnforth route has come under consideration whilst the S&C is restricted?
On the whole it seems rather under utilised by steam trips, especially as it is such a scenic route too. Carnforth has the visitor centre and tea rooms as well as loco servicing facility obviously. Onwards to Preston and back to Crewe?

RTT has the Spirit of the Lakes tour going back to Bridlington via the Coast from Carlisle at 1410. There is a 1433 Barrow but then nothing for 2 hours so it might be possible to path the Commemorative as well, but best guess it it will be back via Shap.

As we wait for timings for this let's reflect on the potential for congestion at Carlisle with two WCRC charters at the station across lunchtime and with all the associated loco and stock movements. And as for the RTC assertion that the Scot will return to Crewe via the coast, were this to happen it would have to be in the next window after Galatea sets off at 1410 and therefore unlikely to be at Carnforth before 7 pm.

I'm remaining hopeful that this will be Crewe-Carlisle-Crewe and not the mission that a coastal diversion will bring. We shall see but it would be good to have a nice short day out for a change.

Despite two locos of the same Class running on Network Rail, each has to have its own envelope for working on the big railway. This is something I found out when helping on the prep work for mainline running of another loco which already has a sister loco passed for mainline work.

And after all the waffle, she did go round the coast without hitting anything.

Yeah, NR must have realised 46115 did the same last year so no need to measure 46100 .......

Really pleased that from the point of view of 46100, yesterday was a very good day. As I have a financial (rather than viewing) interest in the Scot Commemorative, I hope that we get a path on the WCML that gives a chance for a repeat performance although it may not be as quick as Saturday because I'm assuming the train will load up to 11.

Given that Saturday's path down the coastal route has been grabbed by a WCRC charter returning to Bridlington, I'm still interested in how the Scot Comm will work back out of Carlisle. I always thought that despite the limited traffic on the line there was precious little space other than the 1410 slot. But what do I know. No doubt NR will have an answer.

As well as the 1433 to Barrow there's the 1350 off Barrow, arriving Carlisle at 1615 to path a second charter around. Can't really see that happening.

Anyone heard any whispers about timings? Nothing on any searches of RTT and nothing on RTC though according to their website the train is still going north over the S&C and back via the Coast!!! How on earth can anyone make plans for Saturday with timings this late? It's quite ridiculous.

Don't forget to point the finger at NR, there's nothing RTC or WCR can do about it.

I expect there is quite a few other forum members thinking exactly the same - some of whom will be on board (me included). I can't really say I have a preference to the route however I am gutted that I'm still not going to be behind a Scot travelling over the S&C (this was the third attempt!).
