Nothing dramatic there to suggest potential closure. Major clean up and more/better lighting.

Depends on the tenancy agreement. Get a copy of that and there will be your answer.
LSL operates from a separate part of Southall and in case you missed it, have not been the subject of an improvement order regarding their part of the site.

Steam Dreams have an excursion listed on the 13th April, West Brompton to Bath/Bristol with Tangmere. It has the unusual routing of Leatherhead to Guildford via Effingham Junction. When was the last time we had steam along that route? (I know I know, although Steam Dreams are still advertising it, I am not expecting this one to survive as is, if at all)

When I was gainfully employed I always threw back things like pedestrian footbridge at the author asking him or her what other type of footbridge one could have. I also used to ask them whether brand new was newer than new. Tautology creeps in to speech and writing too easily. These days I just wind people up by telling them that left hand pedal is a contradiction and left foot pedal is tautology; left pedal says all that is needed.:)

There was an important point to my original jest. An Improvement Notice is an important document. It has to be unambiguous and foolproof legally. When I was drafting significant documents that would have to stand up to examination possibly at public inquiry or in a court, I chose my words very carefully. The careless use of "pedestrian walkway" can be forgiven in an e-mail dashed off as routine correspondence but an Improvement Notice should be to a higher standard.

Perhaps our resident barrister could give an opinion as to the possible ramifications regarding such wording or do you have legal training?

Agreed it is something of a tautology but doubt it would fatally undermine any enforcement action. It would definitely have been preferable if the wording had been chosen more wisely though.
HSE seem to use the phrase 'pedestrian traffic route' in guidance.

I shall don my very comfortable pompous pedant hat and support John wholeheartedly. I have a vague hypothesis that as the informal language of younger people has become very lean but simultaneously vague and unassertive, (hence "kindas", "sort ofs", "just saying" etc), a corollary is that they believe that, to be precise, formal language should be elaborately redundant.

In passing, has anyone else noticed the recent ubiquity in the media of "new innovations"?

I shall don my voice of reason hat and say "Pedestrian Walkway" is perfectly clear and unambiguous, which is what is required for a communication describing an action that needs to be completed.

Pointless pedants should be tarred and chipped and fed into fireboxes.

It's only 22 days until the Queen's 90th birthday specials, which are due to be hauled by 6201.

It's going to be pushing it to have Lizzie ready and main line fit withn such a short timescale, even though the Tyseley team is pretty good when it comes to miracles.

Preserved Steam Rule no 1. The first advertised passenger pulling run by any newly overhauled loco never happens.

    Preston-Bristol (WCRC) [wcrc]

    and failed to appear obviously
