    Hi Fred

The one on the 9th is supposed to be the Cumbrian Coast Express. Where you say 'Return via Shap (but shown as coast)' is that based on any inside information?

I have a ticket and am wondering if it will run via coast with 45699 or 46115 presuming 46100 is out of gauge for Coast.

    Peter

That appears to be an incorrect presumption - see @meltonnorth's postings in The Scot Commemorative 16th April thread. To call Nigel "a source close to RTC" would be an understatement

Not doubting the source but the statement about 6100 does leave room for doubt. Nowhere has it been publicly confirmed 6100 has passed NR gauging for the coast route. The owners have been quoted as saying its the same dimensionally as 6115 so lets hope NR has agreed and accepted the loco accordingly in good time.

What on RTT identifies 46100 as the loco on April 2nd?

    I'm really hoping it is!

RTC's revised info gave 46100 running Crewe-Shap-Carlisle-Shap-Preston. There is a path Crewe Heritage-Carnforth Steamtown on Friday and the path back from Crewe to Butterley on Saturday evening. This suggests it's more likely to be 46233 running Carnforth-Shap-Carlisle-Shap-Crewe. Whichever loco runs, bring your own coal!

As for the coast run on the 9th, 46115 would probably need a test run following its aborted one towards the end of last year, Galatea has been out most recently and would probably be available, last I heard Leander had been having some work done (horn guides?) and would need a test run. 46100 could be a contender providing it is "in gauge" and the support crew are up for 2 consecutive weekends. No doubt all will be revealed - eventually!

Email from reliable source stated 46100 on 2nd.

In response to Peter (30567) email also noted that on 9th return is via Shap but the link is for the coastal path; I added the phrase "(but link to coast)" to help. Apologies if this has caused more confusion but at the moment I presume the return will depend on which locomotive is used.

Having read all three pages and the 48 posts thus far, I've come to the conclusion that nobody knows the real answer to the questions raised. I guess you'll all have to be patient until the definitive information is published by those in a position to issue it :)

Got e-ticket this morning. Confirmed 46233, steam on at Carnforth, both ways over Shap and off at Crewe. Times appear to be as shown on RTT.

I'm very 'armchair' today Alan. Isn't technology wonderful (Freightmaster + real time track diagrams :)).

68 through Tebay, 51 at Scout Green but a slip lost us at least 5mph and then another just before the summit which was passed at 31. 70 plus all the way to Carlisle, fish and chips just delivered to my table in 'Spoons.
