And you'd think they would thus stop the search engines from seeing it until the embargo date....ah, whoops, it's #4 on the first page of results for a Google search for "Flying Scotsman" and "Robson Green". Hmmm....

Looks like it should be a good documentary, although little bit concerned about the "if" statement, sounds awfully like they're trying to force some drama out of something that's not there, which gets under my skin.

If they don't want it circulated before the 12th the answer is simpl, don't release it until the 12th!

These days it could probably be done in vinyl to avoid re-paints. I would prefer additional water capacity to somehow be incorporated into the support coach. There's nice engineering design exercise for someone!

Water storage in the support coach has been discussed at length previously when VT were looking at it, I think the idea was dropped as getting a reasonable capacity in would take up too much space.

Well if you can put a verandah on a MK1 you may as well have a big hot tub on it that could double as emergency water capacity.... ?
Even using uprated bogies and careful distribution of linked tanks wonder what kind of load would be acceptable on a coach and how much space would it take up... without giving up a significant amount of space you only get an extra 1000 - 1500 gallons ?(guess)
Do you have a link to that thread please mr Mod.

Suppose the corridor tender has to stay as its part of the Scotsman Story

A quick search for water carriers came up with various threads.. http://www.national-preservation.com/search/14620997/?page=2&q=water+carriers&t=post&o=date

But what about the people living on the support coach for a considerable amount time? The more space you have the better so not a practical option from personal experience.

But if you built water beds you could kill two birds with one stone and have a unique selling point for volunteering on the support crew. I think it is time for my medicine and a lie down....

I'm afraid some do not realise how much 'stuff' there is in a support coach already, and how little space remains. Typically you have the compartments, some converted with 4 bunk beds, the guards compartment now part of the kitchen and the rest storage racks and workshop area.

Precisely and the chassis isn't strong enough to carry a substantial well tank ? so the majority of the weight needs to be above the bogies, so a whole compartment gone one end and your storage cages gone the other...
With unlimited funds suppose you could have a whole 'coach lookalike' vehicle scratchdesigned built or a built onto a very robust chassis ( container wagon ? or even a good excuse to pull a heritage Diesel apart perhaps ? )

Tyseley don't seem to have had a weight problem with their converted GUV but I don't remember the 6024 group's converted bogie tanker ever being 'used in anger'. That was the one where they intended to build a coach type body around the tank but don't think it ever got that far.

No problem, but adding the GUV means taking a coach off thus reducing the trains income by at least £600.

    Presumably you mean £6000?

Is a water carrier actually operationally necessary? Current range between water stops is probably about 60 - 80 miles with a bit of contingency. A water carrier might double that, but at cost - maybe worse than Ralph says, since the load is probably equivalent to two coaches. Is there any currently unusable itinerary that could be put in range with a water carrier but would be viable with the reduced income?

    Tom
