    If local geography, why not "Wrynose Bottom"?

    Another update from the groups Facebook page...

    'The visit from the boiler inspector took place on 22nd March. The news from that visit is mainly good - the inspection went much as expected!

    A few small areas of wastage have been identified which can readily be rectified, for example by building up with weld. There is also no fusible plug in the firebox crown, which is very much on the 'to do' list. The only question mark is over wastage on the front tube plate flange in the bottom of the smokebox - non-destructive testing will confirm whether the thickness of the plate remains within tolerances.

    We share this as a positive news story for the Train From Spain! This inspection appears not to have thrown up any gremlins which were totally unexpected, but it does highlight that there is work to do. It is for that reason that we extend our grateful thanks to everyone who has donated to date and that we invite all others to support our great cause. Thanks for reading! More news soon!'

    Why is it that the most important thing is its name and colour. To see it work first is the important thing!

    I'm guessing that this scheme is important because it kills two birds with one stone - it shuts up everyone who keeps asking about or criticising the livery/name as it gives them the chance to influence those choices. It also raises funds to get the loco working.

    Because sadly that seems to be the preservation world - look at any number of reasonable threads on here that have just descended into debates and arguments about livery!

    Frankly if this can get people to pay a few quid and support the project, and thus support the restoration they can paint her pink as far as I am concerned as long as she has fire in her belly!

    All too true that, getting it up and running should be the biggest topic right now, though I suppose since they do have that already well in hand, I guess there's not that much to talk about till it runs beside this.

    I am curious though as to what livery and name folks here on this forum think it should have. What would any of you go for, something that's more appropriate of it's originals, or something more inline with what we have here already in the UK?
    Personally I do like the red livery it already has, and give it some nice golden/silver lining, with a name of local river (in tradition of the locomotives). Is there any local rivers which name's haven't been taken yet?

    I don;t think it is, but the owning group knows such things attract interest and so are looking of a way to benefit from this financially. All for it personally if it helps get the loco into service.

    My nomination would be to keep it's current Maroon/Gold livery, as it resembles it's Spanish past.
    And then name it Guadalquivir, the river that Seville is built around. Keeps to the TrainFromSpain theme, and remembers its history whilst sticking the the Ratty history of naming after rivers.

    Although I did suggest Guadalquivir earlier on this thread, it wasn't serious, because I doubt most people could work out how to pronounce it! I would like to hear it in a strong Cumbrian accent...

    The boiler is in Bouth. The frames and tender are in the back of the loco shed.

    I was chatting with some of the folk at the stand for the loco at easter and there was some discussion going on about whilst it's nice in red- whether a different colour would be better to differentiate it from River Mite more clearly to visitors.

    Great Northern Blue or the darker Caley blue a'la 828 would got my vote! Probably the smartest liveries in preservation currently and pretty unusual!

    A brief review of the update within the most recent R&ERPS Magazine (No.221 - June 2016) (I must emphasise I am a member of the society but have no formal link to the project);
    • c.£17k raised at deadline date for magazine, c.13% of the target figure;
    • Tests with the chassis have proven its compatibility with the line, including the turntables. Tyres will be re-profiled to 'Ratty standard'.
    • Boiler identified matters for review include front tube plate and super heater;
    • The existing tender leaks like a sieve so the construction of a new one is considered.
    There is a fantastic website that is kept up to date, it can be found here - http://trainfromspain.org/ for those with a specific interest in livery there is an opportunity to nominate a livery and name, for a small donation at http://trainfromspain.org/name-and-livery/

    Finally some members of the RERPS have also purchased the other Krauss chassis (8473) which has now also arrived in Cumbria.

    There was a good deal more in a comprehensive review (the magazine is fantastic always), so I would strongly recommend joining the RERPS to keep up to date with proceedings http://rerps.co.uk/the-society/membership-form/

    I agree about the smartness of Caley blue - but Synolda is blue.
    To keep the Scottish livery theme with Northern Rock, how about NBR brown? It's actually very handsome - see Glen Douglas.
    Otherwise Brighton Umber...?

    The second chassis is in the hands of an indipendent group. It will bbe restored all in good time as they have another project to finish first. By this any poultney tender concepts will not happen.

    Great news to hear that'll be restored in it's own right, though if you don't mind me asking, who's this independent group exactly?
