Thanks for posting this. A brilliant sequence; worth buying the next ML Blu-ray just for that!

May be but given (as far as I am aware) the fireman in question holds 4 of the 5 records on the Devon Banks with 71000, (and that engine loves coal and water), I think it is a case of taking it sensibily as you may be indicating. :)

Great sequence and reminder of a fantastic day, thanks for posting. Really highlighted what a superb performance 46100 put in, it didn't miss a beat all day.

Lovely pictures. Shame about the over-compressed sound, but I guess that's down to YouTube - another reason for buying the disc when it appears!

    Good evening all,
Whilst I finish writing up my own little report of the day (this was going to be sent as an e-mail to a couple of friends but I'm going to post it on here as it seems a shame not to share it) did anybody else notice (well it seemed to me anyway) the quite incredible acceleration from leaving Wigan North Western to passing Springs Branch and if so has anybody got a speed recording as I'm beginning to doubt my figures!
    Thank you in advance.

Yes, it was 53. And then we powered on up the rising grade to Golborne with speed continuing to increase. Ok, we had that slow period when we were looped for the service train to go by but then there was that final section from Weaver Junction to Winsford, mostly against the collar. The average for that was not far off our maximum permitted speed. That day did demonstrate what a great machine 46100 is and what a great job LNWR Heritage has done on her.

So here we are in 2016 with LNER and LMS Class 7 icons both in top condition and on the main line. Who said that this year was another one of doom and gloom? A good example of when less is more, in my view.
