I went to an ELR gala with 3 Black 5s in (I think) 2012.

Just wait until we get to the "most pre-grouping locos from the same company" round ... ;)

Coming back to matters NYMR: how much longer has 63395 got left? Checking photos, she was running the last time I visited, but that was quite a while back. I remember a lovely trip up the hill from Grosmont that had the all the hallmarks of "I'm going to go this fast and no faster".

I've got six Hornby Holden tanks, if that helps.

The Q6/T2 I think had its boiler "ticket" reset as a result of the work under taken at Crewe in 2014/2015

Yes. The Teddy Bear W/E at the ELR started with 10, but one failed before the Beer Ex featured in the video.

The most sedate run I ever had up Goathland Bank was behind the Super D. "Chuff chuff CHUFF wheeze. Chuff chuff CHUFF wheeze. Chuff chuff CHUFF wheeze." Dear old thing.

Yup, by all round agreement with/by NELPG [the owning group], the NYMR and Insurance Company. The "ticket/clock" was reset, on account of the amount and depth of repairs carried out on the boiler.

A lot depends on the driver, of course and there's no need to do Grosmont- Goathland at top speed, but may years ago I was on the BR weedkilling train when it traversed the NYMR. It consisted of the spray coach (a Gresley BTO, now a diner on the Colne Valley) and several water tankers and a 20T brake van hauled by the Q6, and banked by the J52 as a precaution, as for the sprays to be effective the speed had to be maintained at 30mph. I rode on the rear brake van balcony and we positively thundered up the bank, with the coupling between the van and the J52 taut all the way! If the tankers were fairly full the train would have equivalent to several Mk 1s. It's a superb machine, but the Q7 was even better - wish we still had that!

Each to his own I suppose, I think its an appalling colour, very bilious. I just hope it doesn't emulate Cheltenham in the sound department when it comes back into traffic.

Tut, tut. It's a lovely colour. Is Cheltenham not loud then?

I'll say it again - there not enough grouping and pre grouping liveries on engines these days. To have no operational black five in LMS livery is very sad - and for almost all of the Bulleids to be BR green is a shame too.

Malachite isn't my favourite livery either but it's a very welcome change from BR liveries.

The only exceptions I make to that are Scotsman and Royal Scot: they're both in forms only accurate to that livery. But boy do they look good in them.

Quite true IMO. You'll have to come and marvel at 34081 in malachite. :)
