Was it originally one of the locos bought by The Barry Steam Loco Action Group for the Brighton Railway Museum project?

5 points to Sagging Dragon (i must have a dirty mind as I thought his name had a 'H' in it) but the gentleman who bought the locomotive from Barry was part of the Brighton Action Group and is currenlty now part of our society and will sign over the locomotive once we have the society is established and we have a new home sorted.

Most pleased to see this long forgotten locomotive get some much wanted love and attention, I'd certainly love to see an original Merchant Navy myself someday.
I presume an ideal new home doesn't have to be a heritage railway right? So long as it has covered accommodation, or a spot where indeed you can build one yourself?

In an ideal world we would get a home on the railway because of the enthusiasts and engineering advantages that gives you but we are investigating places like musuems and covered accommondation.

i know where i would like to see it given a home, and thats at Ropley eventualy, i just wonder once 506 is finished is there room to have it completly stripped,ie wheels out, boiler off and bare frames on bogies next to the carriage works? now that the bunch locos are no longer taking space i would have thought that their would have been space at Ropley

Ropley was the first place we tried we have alot of connections with the railway so we did try our hardest. The MHR are one of the best when it comes to Bulleids and have been very supportive of our project.

I wonder what the timeframe is for 35011. It's taken over thirty year for 35006 to be fully restored. I would think 35011 will be a more complex restoration than any other Bulleid so far because a new middle cylinder will be required plus a new driving wheel is also required. On top of that what about all the chain valve gear that's required. Then you still need to find or make all the missing items.

The 35011 is going to be a complex job but its hard to judge a time frame until we know where the locomotive is going to be based during the restoration. The 35006 team have done a great job with the overhaul of P&O but I'd like to think we'll take less than 30 years to get GSN back into steam.

A great photo from one of our volunteers who came to the working weekend last week. Our whistle castings arrived yesterday. A big thank you to all those who supported our whistle fund. The next step will see the castings be machined to the finished product.

The boiler looks better. Awesome job!
I also think a small smokebox would be interesting to use as a funds box at events.

The team did a good job, lots to do still but she's looking so much better than she did this time last year.
