No my car was parked at B&Q and I had a wander to the end of platform 12, then down the Horse landing, sheltered from a hailstorm, not up to golf balls, more like marbles. Then had to leave as I was down for other duties at home.:(

Having just seen that the move finally started nearly 2 hours late I'm glad I didn't wait any longer...

I was going to comment likewise but then remembered the strict no positives or praise for WCRC rule that is imposed in here......

Fair comment, but I was thinking more of a problem (hopefully) solved by the nearest workshop kindly offering their facilities rather than the locomotive having to go back to Bury or up to Carnforth. No one was forgetting where the replacement part reportedly came from and, no doubt, 10A would do exactly the same thing if, for example, Tornado had a problem near to their base.

To the passing public 10A DOES look like a scrap yard. It doesn't give the impression of being a thriving business. Yes, it's a good source of spares, but a bit of tidying up using the depot shunter would help.

Was actually thinking more of the juggling that WCRC has been doing over the past few days, plus the extra paths that Network Rail has found at a moment's notice to help keep the GBIX show on the road. That does deserve some recognition and it's not over yet. As for the likelihood that WCRC might make their facilities available to assist other locos with problems, including Tornado, as did LNWR Heritage with 44871, I actually think they would, so #349 is hardly barbed. But there you go.

FWIW it seemed to get a decent tidy during the recently enforced closure and most of the WCRC liveried stock is now very tidy (I suspect a lot of people were given a brush rather than standing idle) - and the livery matches unlike many other charter rakes. The one area that the passing rail public sees (note you don't see the majority unless you are heading down the Cumbrian Coast as it is screened by the station and junction) is the rakes of ex postal stock bought I assume for their bogies which fill the southern sidings at the site, these look like ex BR stock stored all over the place and short of planting a bloody big hedge (Imagine the paranoia and froth that would encourage on here that the bogeyman was 'up to something') or spending a fortune painting them just for the great and good of Carnforth to tag them again not sure what WCRC can do?

To the passing public it looks like a tatty rail yard of which there are a plethora all over the network, however unlike NR/DBS etc WCRC don't plaster it in signage stating they own it, ask 99.9% of those passing who owned it and they would have no idea apart from the locals who realise that WCRC is a helpful and much welcome local employer?

Not as simple as that. Siding space is at a premium and is laid out for the steam shed 10A used to be rather that the carriage yard it now is. Shunting can be complex. The active part of Steamtown is at the northern end, not the part alongside the WCML which is why it is used for static storage. I agree that it is unfortunate that this is the part many see but I doubt there is a simple fix. HTH, AN
