Outstanding work. Thank you for posting, and thank you to ALL involved in making GB IX the roaring success it has been so far, when at times it must have been very temping to take the soft option.

Lovely clips and, in the case of Lindal, it looks like a full blown assault with nothing from the back as distinct from the low murmur of 'gentle assist' on some other occasions to date. You get the distinct impression that the WC crews are really trying to give steam every chance of doing it on its own.

Sadly I think there are a number of people desperate for WCRC to fail so they can post their 'told you so posts', but to try and draw attention to such matters on here just seems odd.

I had some limited engagement with a member of WCRC staff earlier at Carnforth (I won't bore you here) and based on that anyone who claims they don't have an affinity to steam and promoting it on the mainline is a fool!

Indeed they are and always try to

I think the majority of them.are enthusiasts too and appreciate steam on the mainline

I believe the diesel and steam crews are in radio contact with each other thus able to ask.for assistance when necessary

Due to being late from the waterstop at Lockerbie we were looped at the bottom of Beattock. This brought the.inevitable shoving from 47760 for the climb, although I.suspect even.if we hadn't been looped there we would.have received assistance there.

Sadly.with no large steam.locos available or 2 smaller ones to double.head, the assistance is inevitable

I do wonder whether thought was given to 44871 double.heading with 45699 today given.it followed.us up with pob?

Also interesting to note that Galatea has returned to Carnforth this evening according to rtt.

Would have been interesting had it been allowed / available to double.head with the five to Inverness and ultimately Thurso, mmmmm

I think you may find that everything north of Edinburgh had been gauged for a Black 5, so all that can go north is a Black 5 and only one is left. NR don't do last minute gauging, sadly, otherwise your idea would have been a good one.

I cannot be bothered to look, is anything non LMS or in fact non Stanier booked to haul this now or can we now conclude that Sir William Stanier is 'The Great Briton'? (He was a Swindon lad you know )

Is there anything wrong with that, the Highland Mainline and the Far North Line were both ex LMS lines so a Black 5 is very appropriate. A red Jubilee to Thurso? No.

As said in a previous post, a diesel locomotive can be notched on with the power unit idling, the main generator/alternator will be supplying some traction amps to the motors enough to move the loco at slow speed when light engine. Hence it is possible for the loco to be 'taking its own weight' when the power unit is idling depending on the severity of the gradient.
I think only 760 and 47245 are still equipped with vacuum brakes in the WC 47 fleet...

A good place to start a long read is this thread but not the GBIX one:

You should find what you need there but be prepared for some strident views! Welcome to Nat Pres.

Nope, 47270 definitely has vac brakes as does 47746 I believe

47580 owned by S47G and often hired by wcrc and indeed currently at Carnforth also is dual braked

Because "Jubilee" class locomotives were never painted in that livery in BR days, it is out of charactor so to speak but it is owners choice to paint it what ever colour he wants.

As for FS, she is more or less in the right shade of green for her present appearance with the german smoke deflectors amongst other things. It is all subjective and here (this thread) is not the place to discuss it. HTH.

Well the answer for 46100 performance, assistance for Rattery, Hemerdon and assisted to get upto line speed on Whiteball. Please don't ask any questions or dispute claims please as there won't be any follow up. Regardless, I would say the punters almost got what they wanted afterall. :)

I think you may find, if I am correct, 71000 "Duke of Gloucester" is another locomotive some years back too.

You don't need to look very far - http://uksteam.info/tours/trs16.htm#twk (look at all the locos beginning 4xxxx for the answer!)
