Absolutely correct it is this sort of cop out that makes this country a laughing stock, it's the responsibility of the BT Police to secure the lineside (remember the Q trains) but all branches of the plod abdicated their responsibilities years ago. A bit like that sign you see in remote car parks ' thieves operate in this area' rather than ' thieves beware police operate in this area'

To me it looks like NR were just holding back the times so the media outlets wouldn't be able to publish them in time !

The civilian police force is almost non existent these days as well. How often do you see any police patrols out & about these days?
Never anything on foot & only the odd car if it is on a 999 call out.
No wonder street crime & traffic offences are so rife these days, there is absolutely no deterrent whatsoever & offenders know it.
There is more chance of winning millions on the lottery than being caught by the police for anything.
On the very rare chance of being arrested & charged, the courts are pathetic as well, they hand out slaps on wrists like confetti.

You'd like to think so, but somehow I can't quite cope with the theory of NR having that kind of sense. Its probably a system glitch, unmasks the times when it gets activated. If we don't tell them they probably wont realise.

Eminently sensible logic. Either way, things are not as secretive as originally thought.

Looking at RTT it seems to have missed the change, unless they managed a swift 6 minute change in the station itself?

6 minutes at Platform 11 - did it change there instead? Seems more logical

Six min to change a loco? Happened all the time in 1956 but never in 2016. Times suggest it happened in Holgate as intended.

Exactly how many BTP staff would be required to "protect the lineside".?!

Do they RTT suggest it arrived at Holgate at 1200 and left at 1200 - I suspect in reality the arrival wasn't recorded and it jut shows up the once?

A mobile squad in cars ready to respond to train crew reports is easy to organise I would have thought. All the public crossings around St Neots were always going to be a problem and a couple of plod at each one would have been enough.

They should all link arms along the rail side and be armed with water bombs to throw at any heads out of the windows, although if it is like many of the tours that certain of our regular posters have heard about everyone will be tied to the seats or whipping each other on board... (SD, more like SM Tours!)

Incidentally BTP lineside patrols are quite common up here on the Cumbrian Coast, I went up to Whitehaven the other week and assume that something was going on at Sellafield as every crossing and station between Barrow and Sellafield had a large armed police presence, perhaps it was just training for the Scotsman runs?

According to RealTimes it both arrived and departed Holgate at 1200. Don't think they could change loco's without stopping, even in 1956! Someone who was actually there can no doubt confirm what actually happened.
