There is some retiming of services to allow for the charter path.
    14.35 xBL retimed to 14.45
    14.25 xMD retimed to 14.35

Charter is booked off BL at 13.10 Arr MD 14.27
Dep MD 17.15 Arr BL 18.22

Its going to be a busy day with light loco moves, the steam services, D7017 on the Dmu diagram, D832 on a DEC and the charter.

How you which lever to pull is amazing, would confuse the hell out of me. my grandad was a signalman at Taunton, wiveliscombe and somewhere near Tiverton junction. Sadly never got to talk about it as I was too young when he passed but guess that's where my love of trains came from.

Could almost be mixed traction weekend.. Perfect. Ideal time for me to use local residents card and travel..

  7. Next year is Taunton 175. Who remembers the excellent Cavalcade staged at BL to celebrate Taunton 150 back in'92? I've still got the 'T'-shirt, although it appears to have shrunk over time.

I hope we celebrate 175 in some way, a gala theme perhaps?

To expand on Robin's times above:

    Charter BL 1305/1310
    CH 1325/1337
    WN 1352 (pass)
    BA 1415 (pass)
    MD 1427/1715
BA 1728/1735 (wait at Up Home signal)
    WN 1755 (pass)
    CH 1812 (pass)
    BL 1822/1825

D7017 and D832 are already at BL, therefore no l/e moves from WN, but D9526 will be running WN 1015/ BL 1055 for a pit inspection at BL, returning BL 1700/ WN 1745 with D7017.

    D832 on Diesel Engineman's Course (load 4)
    BL 1145
    CH 1200 (pass)
    WN 1215 (pass)
    BA 1235/1245
    MD 1300/1320
    BA 1335/1420
    WN 1440 (pass)
    CH 1457/1505
    BL 1515/1530
    CH 1542/1550
    WN 1605/1612
    BA 1632/1640
    MD 1655.
    D832 l/e dep 1745 to WN arr 1815.

D7017 should be on load 6 on the DMU diagram.

I remember GWR 150, we were at Dainton along with a load of others!
As regards tank engines , I've fired 4561 & 6412 a number of times in the days they were running , we always stopped for water a WN. But then I fired 6412 a couple of times when the crane was long gone from there, it may even be still laying in the 6ft now, & although water was tight it was never desperate as I remember. On one cracking night run we flew up to CH blowing off embarrassingly so all the way. But then we probably only had 3 or 4 on & a good driver, Dave Williams.

I may have time on Saturday for a brief trip on part of the line, probably from Bishops Lydeard. Looking at the public timetable, it seems as though the down train leaves well before the up at the loops. Is there time to make a quick connection at Crowcombe or Williton?

There is always time to make the connections. Generally speaking, the first train in is usually the later one out, because the signalman has to take the token back to the signalbox and pass it through the system before a train can procede. It helps to be in the front coach(es) of a down train at Crowcombe and the rear ones at Williton (vice versa for up trains!)

Thank you. Just concerned that it's all long drive home to Grantham if the connection didn't make!
