BTP have always been inconsistent, many years ago when 70000 ran into Victoria disguised as 70004 William Shakespeare, the first steam to do so since the early sixties, the dozen or so who turned up to photograph it were confronted with enough BTP to see off a regiment of Milwall supporters. We weren't allowed anywhere near the platform and witnessed the comical scene when two railway men tried to get through. No entry without a pass but you can go through when the steam train has left. 'We're in for a long wait then we're the relief crew to take it back to Stewart's Lane' . The stand off finished when an inspector arrived and sanity prevailed, he also realised he wasn't facing a major riot and let us onto the platform as well

That was a a private trip with very little publicity so I can only conclude that in the case of 60103 BTP messed up.

Maybe that's called 'crowd control'................... no crowds, no problem - they're excuse beggars belief - as has been said, if an A1 & A4 fit, then logic suggests an A3 ain't a problem.

I know of a fair few who have traveled up from Darn Sarf today to spend time over the border for 60103 & a lot of money to boot - they're gonna be mightily miffed when they find out! :(

    Not impressed!

I suspect next week is going to be interesting in the media.

Is it actually going to be allowed to get into Kings Cross or be dethroned early ?

Could be a week of Scotsman Politics and Network failings.

oh and theres a court date due too isn't there ?

This reminds me of when they refused to let SNG run over network rail to the NNR. That was announced at the last minuite as well due to an "admin error".

Can I just remind people that the job of NR is to provide infrastructure for the thousands of service trains a day which are essential to the general public - which it does reasonably well in very difficult circumstances. It is not to provide a spectacle for steam enthusiasts, especially those who want to photograph without making any contribution to NR costs (that includes me - I have never been able to afford/justify the cost of a mainline steam ticket).
If we occasionally get the privilege of seeing steam go by on the mainline, we should be grateful.
If, instead, we just criticise NR, then it will become not worth their while and it will stop.
In particular, if we blame NR for some idiots trespassing onto the line as great danger to themselves and the travelling public, and make light of the trespass, we can probably say goodbye to mainline steam.
Perhaps instead of moaning, the movement could make some helpful suggestions about how to facilitate this type of run while preventing the trespass. Volunteer Marshalls, perhaps? Making suggestions which would cost the cash strapped BTP or NR lots of money is bonkers in the current climate of public spending. I don't imagine the general taxpayer would think mounting a colossal police exercise at the trackside a very good use of public money....
