I guess that the driver will be sitting in the rear cab but if assistance is needed he will have to transfer to the front one.

Well, that was a rather enjoyable day yesterday ! 34052 looks superb and sounds rather nice too ! Though I'd guess you would expect that from the Hosking workshop ! Hope you enjoy :)

Some great footage there, You must work with at least two cameramen, I believe I may have spoken to you at the crossing near Liss. I was driving the black Merc.

My pictures from yesterday, Leatherhead, Buriton, Liss and finally in the gathering gloom at Guildford a location that is changing rapidly with yet another office block going up

A couple of shots from me at Shalford Junction and Chalton, on the lower section of Buriton Bank. Lovely to see her out and about again. She certainly looks and sounds in fine fettle.

Forget assistance, DBC management would take a dim view of us giving assistance on the rear of a train except for laid down locations and emergencies. Laid down locations would be in the sectional appendix of the rule book, or any officially agreed working due to special circumstances of an individual train. Generally if a 67 is in the consist, on the rear of a train, it will be isolated and shut down. If it is required for train ETH requirements the loco will obviously need to be running, and the 'head end' power (ETH) running. In this circumstance the loco 'must' have a driver on the loco. The loco would be be 'isolated for towing', no power to the traction motor's would be possible. This was the case Sunday. There is a way that a 67 can be set up to provide power on the rear, but the driver would need to keep the loco's master switch in the direction required, the deadmans would need to be depressed (SFF every 90 seconds) and the AWS will be going off every signal. Which set up would you choose!
The change over between the two can not be done on the move.
Also, as I mentioned earlier on this thread, a 67 when operating ETH is running at quite high engine revs. They are quite regularly mistaken for applying power. Even railway people have been caught out, including inspectors. So don't feel put out 99Z, you're not alone.

Lovely set of shots John. The Liss shot clearly the winner, with the lovely evening sun. A bit touch and go with the light though ! Regards, Liam

Here is my video of the Guildford departure last night. She sounded great pulling away. Sounds like she is spot on with her timing. :)

Thanks Wayne for that well put reply ,I tried to explain this a year or two ago on this site. Got a e/mail direct from a moderator saying that it was perfectly ok for West Coast to push from behind as long as he/her received a radio message from the front driver .Would this be acceptable to DBC ?

You think there maybe a recent alteration in the rule book. If so could we hear about it.?

In one of the past debates concern was expressed about banking/pushing other than on specifically authorised places like inclines. Perhaps the comment is suggesting adherence to rules/working practices post-suspension is being generally tightened up. Tradition was double heading not top and tail.

No, not under normal operating conditions.
If special working instructions apply for a specific train for a unusual route, it would need to be agreed in advance. This would involve Network rail who would need to agree to it. This would then be shown in the trains 'STN' for the day. I believe this might have happened for the borders trips last Autumn, I stand to be corrected on this though. I know there was some talk of it before hand, but whether it happened or not, I am not sure.
Agreed locations as shown in the sectional appendix such as Lickey incline, out of Victoria, Westbury etc. Different ball game, they are allowed locations. But only over the sections shown.
