I know there are some here who are active in garden and particularly live steam railways, hence the post.

Perhaps if we had something that even remotely resembled a police force & a justice system in this country then this type of thing wouldn't happen.
There is absolutely no deterrent whatsoever as things are at the moment in this country & people know it, so take advantage.
Full of the slap on the wrist brigade who are frightened of their own shadow if they hand out anything more in case of repercussions.
If the police even look at someone these days, they get sued for assault.

I've given this theft a mention on the Modelrailforum as well - smaller forum than this but obviously dealing with model railways. More we can spread the news the more likely the stolen items might be recovered.

Burglary = jail time. What do you suggest as a suitable deterrent then? Thieves exist in EVERY society so not really sure how you think an 'actual police force and justice system' will just eradicate the issue. Your last 'point' is just absolute nonsense.

Feel for the chap. Maybe they will turn up though. Likely to be sold back into the garden rail community.

...that is terrible........something similar to this happened recently in Spain, the stolen models were found eventually in a local secondhand shop.....

So actually no mention or comment upon the story and instead just a rant with limited factual base, that's helpful - thank you so much for your input......

Horrible news for the chap at an already difficult time, hope they are found and returned to the gentleman.

Such stories often come up and I don't really understand why they are any worse or more despicable than any burglary, unless the thief knows of the gentleman's condition prior to the offence its really little different to just any thieving scroat nicking stuff. Not in any way condoning it but always interests me why its considered worse (unless as I say before the perpetrator knew!)

Fingers crossed, note it was some time back is there any subsequent news - sadly a google search throws up nothing more?

....it's because handbuilt models have a sentimental attachment.....they are more than just objects with a financial value.....

Why don't you get off my back! You have a dig at virtually every post I make.
What's your problem, nothing else better to do?
I think you do it purposely, my quote was originally posted on the 26th of May!

I don't disagree but will your average burglar know that, its just a big trainset to them unless its a modeller on modeller crime?

I am somewhat unsure how you have managed to reach such a paranoid conclusion as I have no idea who you are (edit - actually the name does ring a bell now, usually ranting about WCRC and rail tours whilst telling all and sundry that you never travel - sorry got you now!) , I tend to only respond to posts in such a manner when said post makes little sense in the context within which it is presented nor adds anything to the debate, the fact that you claim this is some sort of personal vendetta as I respond to your posts suggests more to do with post content rather than the identity of the poster themselves...

The accusation of 'Nothing better to do' whilst lacking ay form of evidential base (unless you are looking through my office window) seems a little rich coming from someone who sees a post about a very unfortunate event affecting an elderly and unwell gentlemen and decides it is appropriate and helpful to post a peculiar rant about the police which has nothing to do with the story nor actually supported by any evidential base bar personal prejudice. FWIW as I only read the thread today as a fellow poster added to it please don't flatter yourself that I in some manner seek out your valuable contributions.

Sorry to have responded to your post, as it will no doubt fuel the fire of paranoia and perceived persecution - have a jolly weekend.

.....when trying to tie up crimes i always go for the "exceptions" first and then work out a way of joining them up, it helps.....in this case he was away in hôspital (1) and he had his models stolen (2), the simple conclusion being that he had his models stolen because he was in hospital leading to the assumption that the person who stole the models knew he was in hospital and take it on from there .......

OK sarge ;) Although could a similar conclusion not just be a scroat noticed the house had been lightly occupied for a prolonged period of time I know from personal experience that a lot of such crime is fairly opportunistic (for clarity I was the victim, not the perpetrator!)

Where have I ranted about WCRC? I have given my valid reasons for not travelling.

Can we get back on topic please!

If you wish to continue this conversation please do so via the PM system rather than take over this thread as it has absolutely nothing to do with the thread and nothing to do with the subject matter. Thank you.

Remember, I did not start this today. I said my piece on 26/05.
Someone else decided, 2 weeks down the road, to have a dig about my post which I wasn't prepared to ignore. Especially as it wasn't the first time this person has had a go.
    Hope this explains the situation.
Also I have discussed this with another mod.
I know this is still OT, but I wanted to put my side of things.
