To repeat what has been pointed out here and elsewhere, the tour info mentioned what was taking the tour to York, what was trundling the tour to the NE and back but mention of what was returning the tour from York so that section was a bit of a "mystery tour". Anyone who booked and then moaned should have studied the brochure a tad closer.

To correct any possible misconceptions from this statement, its worth noting that nowadays, UKRT are in truth just a very occasional player in the main line steam business. All the Tornado trips are promoted by A1SLT, just using UKRT as booking agents. So that means that the last UKRT promoted steam outing was probably Clan Line's London-Chester-Crewe farewell June 30th last year. And I think before that the Bittern farewell in December 2014. UKRT's outings are overwhelmingly modern traction, and I don't think they would need any lectures from anyone about understanding customer's traction preferences. Or how to manage their promotion.

Meanwhile, 4,200 views and still counting !!

to correct some of the errors, omissions and some wee froth on here,

UK Railtours have in the past years since Tornado was built and on the ML in 2009 UKR has ran its own very successful (some of their best ever) day trips with Tornado, Braunton, and the Duke 71000 and all this fuss about they were going to put big T on the front last Saturday iso of a diesel would not I can assure you, have upset the vast majority of their very loyal and intelligent customer base. Please give them and the Company the credence and respect they deserve.

To have one or two complainers on the socialinterwebthingy about kettle hate who may have never even been on this tour is simply lubricious to give them any air time plus its hilarious that a steam stand in for a diesel has attracted so much interest when its normally the other way round lol

Maybe so but a bit of lubriciousness would help take one's mind off of the window hanging ban as well as provide a diversion during lengthy water stops. ;)

More interestingly still, perhaps, is that UKS has it hauled by 60136! Where did they dig 'Alcazar' up from?

Any sign of a Loco+POB move (probably DL-towed) from York to Stewarts Lane yet? If not, what will haul the BBP on Sat 18th? A little bird suggests to me that 34052 could pick this duty up...

yes 34052 (34046) on the Belmond run today iso 60163 aka lubicrous or Alczar LOL :) - 60163 still at York - unknown as to why she was not aval for 18/06

i thought Braunton had run with the Pullmans before? but my memory maybe wrong

Wayne and James are on it from the S/Lane - expect a good run - usually the diesel only assists the train up the bank from plat 2 VIC but whether it stays with the train today i do not yet know -
no doubt the Belmond 18/06 thread will report as such

"Official statement from The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust

'Tornado' was de-registered from the Rolling Stock Library at midnight on Friday 10th June. There were no reasons for this in terms of paperwork or mechanical condition of our locomotive. Investigations have shown that this was caused by a computer error associated with recent new software introduced by the RSL. As a consequence, the locomotive was unable to haul a train for UK Railtours on Saturday 11th June nor return to London in time for today’s ‘Belmond British Pullman’. We are pursuing this with the RSL to ensure it doesn't happen again to ourselves and hopefully anyone else. We are also addressing the financial impact this has had on the Trust with relevant parties. When resources allow, Tornado will return to London and resume her calendar of operations."

Purely from an IT perspective I'd love to see how their test plan ensured no degradation of existing service functions !

Presumably the GBrF class 66, 66779 Evening Star didn't get de registered just because it was off NR whilst housed at the NRM? And if it had I bet it wouldn't take this long to get it back on!

So between them, and in different ways, the Rail Safety and Standards Board plus Network Rail have managed to bring about considerable (and unnecessary) disruption to the activities of arguably the two most prestigious steam locomotives currently on the network- i.e. Tornado and Flying Scotsman.

It would be nice to feel that there is acute embarrassment within both organisations and some people are having their heads knocked together in a high profile manner. Well it would be nice to think that anyway.

That feels to me like two locomotive owners who can expect doors to be opened for them when they next ask. We shall see.

This sounds like a scenario from The IT Crowd "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?"

I'm not normally one for conspiracy theory, but it does make me wonder when I see how much disruption is being caused to so many efforts to run steam on the main line.
