48151 has done the itinerary before, so it could become part of a positioning move for the Welsh Mountaineer after the Scarborough Spa this Thursday. I can't see much else doing the latter trip.

I had been wondering this myself. I was thinking 46115 would be the only eligible loco if 46100 is down south, but are both Scots now elsewhere?

Since the WSSE for next Saturday has disappeared from the RTC website, I presume 46115 will be heading back to Carnforth after the CathEx to Weymouth.

Any news on the motive power for the Welsh Mountaineer on Tuesday 26th July?
I have not heard of 45305 being moved from the GCR, therefore I presume 48151 is being transferred from its Scarborough duties?

RTT is showing this via Shap both ways so 46233 is the likely power

    Just received this from RTC....

'With regards to your booking on The Dorset Coast Express on Wednesday 27th July 2016 we are writing to inform you that the tour has been cancelled. The cancellation is due to a high fire risk in the Southern area which has led to a steam ban being put in place and would mean the train would not be permitted to run with any steam haulage at all. We do not want to substitute the steam locomotive with a diesel and so have decided that the most sensible decision at this stage is to cancel the tour, whilst there is still time to notify all passengers of the cancellation.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the any disappointment or inconvenience this cancellation, which is outside of our control, may cause.'

A shame, but hardly unexpected given the current heatwave in the South

Interestingly 48151 move from York today was cancelled and email from rtc with timings shows 46115 for Welsh Mountaineer

46115 would be very appropriate motive power for the North Wales Coast :) but I doubt a Royal Scot has been on the Conwy Valley Line before.

    Looking forward to it.

Sounds like RTC are being economical with the truth here given that yesterdays Belmond Surrey Hills ran with Tornado and no diesel on back (unless of course there is one "steam ban rule" for WCRC and a different one for DBC).

Looking at the state of my garden and given that very modest temperatures and even a little rain is forecast for the next few days I do find it hard to justify a possible steam ban.

It is very dry in many parts of the South West. I guess it is either standing crops or steam trains. I opt for crops. There are many places you can ride steam trains - albeit a shorter journey.

But even if there were no 'steam ban', what's available to haul the train?
Steam motive power is pretty thin on the ground at the moment.

UKSteam.info have updated 2 RTC trips this weekend coming,

The CME on 06/08 will now be steam hauled by 45690 Leander from Preston-Carlisle via Shap and return, NR have out-gauged the locomotive over the Cumbrian Coast route hence the run back via Shap and the steam haulage starting from Preston

Then The Royal Duchy on 07/08 will be steam hauled by 46233 Duchess of Sutherland, interesting to see if she'll be gauged right over the route

That format has been used in the past, I guess they will revert to the S&C for the return if the work is finished,

Double headed steam over the Cumbrian Coast is rare. I would guess they would come off at Carnforth.
