This is a repeat itinerary, and the slot up the Conway Valley has already been used this month, yet network rail have not yet managed to release timings, is there any wonder that we get frustrated, unable to plan whether we have to drive to and from our joining station or be able to use a service train....

Only three cancellation days to go (notwithstanding Sunday). If all goes well, I'll see you on it. Getting on at Preston to maximise the mileage. Will probably end up driving over the Pennines if its earlier than the approximate timings.

Well 48151 is heading back to Carnforth today via the Aire valley so that must be a good sign. Unfortunately for me standard class has sold out so unless Ralph has any spare seats to flog in the brake, it's have a good day.

A shame. One of the downsides of having a short train length.

On the other hand one of the upsides is that I reckon you'll get up the hill this year!

Here's hoping! I would be interested to see a tally of success to failure in this trip reaching Blaenau over the years. Might have a go when I have a spare five minutes.

Wouldn't be surprised if the brake was sold out as well.

No sign of any movement for the 8F on Realtime so far today

Got my ticket, its 06:44 ex-Preston. Apparently, 46115 is doing it with 6 on in total. Seems as light as they can get it to obtain some sort of financial return.

Apologies I should have checked today. I saw what was obviously the path for it on RTT yesterday but perhaps there's been a late change of plan. I thought 48151 and 61994 were the two locos best suited to this job ; it will be interesting to see how 46115 gets on.

It certainly will be. Power-wise it should be ok, but its getting that power onto the rails which might prove dicey. I hope they have plenty of sand!

Commendably swift gauging authorisation from NR?
Did Scots ever use the Conwy line back in the day?

Very doubtful, hope it stays dry, at least then it gives her a fair chance.

Obviously the drivers know the route and loco capability best so fingers crossed their judgement is good.

Indeed, I have been fortunate in all my trips to BF, not one has resulted in a fail. Even in the early days when a 2-6-4 tank got stuck on a Saturday train, I was on the Sunday one which went up with a much reduced load.

Hope the curves are not too mean on those big driving wheels, sounds akin to taking a King to Mallaig.

Exactly what I was thinking. But if it makes it, it'll be one hell of a run. Suspect there will be a fair bit of noise, too.

Quite but maybe that will be the next surprise.
