    WCRC have missed out on operating the country's most reliable main line steam loco. That surely has to be seen as a bit of an own goal.

    Did it sit down on the sw main line? did it keep to the schedule so if no, then yes, it was well with in the envelope of what it can haul, and keep to the timings as regards WCRS not operating it, wasnt the very same contractor then used by CRS them selves? it could well come back down to another clash of personalities.

    The ORR have implemented the restriction of loads to the max of 11 for West Coast Railways only. What I don't understand is how did Network Rail allow Tornado to haul 13 coaches up Honiton Bank but wouldn't accept her up Sapperton Bank?

    If the GWS are happy to pay I'm sure the Trust are more than satisfied with the arrangement between mainline commitments. You don't get any steaming fees stuck at Stewarts Lane.

    I was wondering if she was going to be used again at Didcot as I couldn't make it at Easter. I was hoping she would be rostered again as I wanted to do the £10 footplate rides.

    I believe this was a decision taken by DBC not by Network Rail. Sapperton is steeper and more twisty !

    Sorry wasn't aware that this was a WCRC only thing - suppose that makes sense as WCRC only have Class 7 or below in its own stable - a bit of a grey area for other Locos they use.
    I wasn't disputing the capability of 60163 to handle its Load and no doubt this would have been given consideration by all parties concerned.

    Bit of news. I hear from serious people who know these things that this issue that was plaguing Tornado has been fixed, signed off and it will be on the move to Bristol on Saturday.

    Failed with an injector issue yesterday. I wandered over to the shed from my office at Stewarts Lane depot to watch it go out, and it didn't.

    Exhaust injector problem. One injector will do, and locomotives have run with one back in time but a FTR exam is about everything being operational. Brilliant that it was possible to strip it down and deal with the problem. Well done to the A1ST engineers; it must have been one of those 'touch and go' situations that you do not want to happen all that often.

    No, the rule is, and always was, that you must have two working injectors, partly to supply the boiler at times of high output, but also as an insurance in the event of the other injector failing on the road.
