The new bookazine "Steam from Scratch" has a very upbeat article on the Bloomer and seems to suggest that active fund raising is under way right now?

Could we find a statement from Tyseley as to the status of the project please?

    Regards

I would loved to see active fund raising, but it can't be very active if none of us have yet seen an appeal for funds.

    Well, there you are chaps.
The first figure seems attainable, and the second one encouraging.

Crazy thing is... Looking this forum has over 10,000 members. That's £15 each and the loco is covered! Challenge to Nat Pres admins.

Tried it in the past (when the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway was in dire straits with land slips) and the response was not overwhelming then.

Yes, unfortunately this was the case, we had some donations but nothing like the level needed to hit £1.5k let alone £150k.

The snag is, "If you all gave just £1 to OUR cause, then..." So then the next cause says it too, and the next, etc. How many good causes are there in the railway preservation movement for everyone to give just £1 to?

    Hi Ben,
Would you be kind enough to post the address to send the cheque, or online payment details if applicable? I can't seem to find the Bloomer page on your website any more, and I'd like to be sure it would go to the Bloomer project rather than a general donations fund.

Can't afford £150k I'm afraid but I hope my £15 will help a little and encourage other NP members to do the same as suggested by @Gav106

Interesting to see this thread back - after over a year - but I'm unsurprised to see Tyseley's lack of interest.

You've saved yourself £15, Miff, and perhaps helped to prevent other people wasting their cash on a dead project.

Dead? There was a time when they said that the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway was dead. Perchance it (the Bloomer) doth sleep?

The lack of a response from Tyseley to post #269 is disappointing*, especially given their declared wish to finish the project subject only to the money being provided. I too would be happy to make a small contribution, but what we need is an organised appeal for funds. There are loads of such appeals across the preservation movement for all sorts of projects, some of them very big ones, and most of them seem to bring in the money, if only slowly. Can we not find someone to take on this one?

*Edit: but explained in post #276.

To be fair, we don't know if someone from Tyseley has responded privately.
Even if they haven't responded yet, it's only been 10 days since the posting - I can't imagine that Tyseley actively monitor this site.

Is it also not a case of priority?? Surely as Tyseley is rarely open to the public (a couple of times per year) the Locomotive wouldn't get much work. So Tyseley being a business needs to look at more important income streams. I'm guessing that having a castle that is pretty route friendly (soon to be Clun also) and other locos such as the Jub are a higher priority as having them in service to haul the vintage trains is the main objective. So if Tyseley were to divert their funding efforts towards a bloomer that actually doesn't fit their current operating plans and would either sit on-site rarely in use or go on hire to another railway (do Tyseley locos do that? I know a Pannier went to Svr the other year but have no idea if any others do preservation work?) Would they end up being unable to keep the mainline fleet working at the same time??
As it was said above if someone comes along with £150,000 it will be done. I think the real question is to Tyseley if someone came along and offered to pay the £150,000 to get it in steam what would the deal be in terms of where it goes, who looks after it (Tys or the group paying for the final finishing) and who get the steaming fees etc. And what work is it actually capable of doing on a railway?

If only someone from the preservation scene won the euro millions!!!

If you want to draw someone's attention to a post you can add their name to it in the following format

    @MellishR

They will then get a PM notifying them.

As of two minutes ago, according to his profile, Ben hadn't signed on since the 10th, so unsurprising he hasn't responded yet.

Yes, Ben's reply (#263) on 10th August 2016 was to Mellish's enquiry (#250) of 11th June 2015, over a year ago, so give it time!

Well if anyone feels so strongly about it, they could always pick up the phone....
People on here seem to think Tyseley (and other railways/centres) have a duty to constantly check this site and respond to all and every query/comment.
