I note from the latest steam beano it states that usa 30072 is to be over hauled for KWVR 50th birthday celebrations. An exciting development

I think the phrasing is 'hoped' to be steaming by 2018 for the 50th, so keep your gingers crossed :)

The Ivatt 41241 is going into KWVR maroon according to a picture in the latest SR, so ochre for 30072 would make sense if a re-enactment of the 1968 train is planned. I can't say it looks at all pretty to my eyes, but it's very appropriate way of marking 50 years of a really good heritage railway.

Excellent news. Will be able to relive my early visits to the line although I suspect the roiling stock won't be quite the mish-mash it was back then.

I was at Haworth in 1968 to see the reopening special go by. Then, for the rest of the season, 72 and 41241 handled most of the traffic using the Met coaches in blue and cream. It would be great to see a recreation of that first train. Most of the coaches are still on the line, but I think it's unlikely that they would repaint them.

2018 is going to be an interesting year on the KWVR.

I believe 72's new owner posts on here, I'm sure we'll get an update in good time.

30072 isn't that the chunky little american tank? Pretty sure that's got a new owner now & I'd apparently now based on the preston docks branch.

From the Ribble Steam Railway web site:

No 30072 is currently on display in the museum at Preston, requiring extensive firebox repairs and a major overhaul.
30072 was in August 2015 purchased by Andy Booth (the current owner of L&YR Class 27/1300) and is planned to be overhauled in time for the 50th anniversary of the opening of the KWVR in 2018
