Locos can and do fail at short notice and I no point have I said differently .However for example 9526 has gone from being rostered for two full weekends last weekend and this to a Sunday and Saturday only that was NOT down to on the day or last minute failure.
Yes I do volunteer and part own a loco that failed recently, back up and running a couple of hours later.
It's because the roster for the September has been published that I will be there .

I can't answer your point about 9526 but I'm sure others from DEPG can. I'm glad to hear that you understand how fickle these machines can be and are actively engaged in their preservation. I really hope that you enjoy your visit to the WSR in September. You'll know more than most that in volunteer run organisations everybody strives to do the best job they can.

This is a ludicrous suggestion. The crew do not decide which locos will run. They take out what the roster says they will always assuming that they are qualified to do so.

It's easy to find out by looking at the WSR website! In case that's a problem, I'll tell you it's the Autumn Steam Gala.

There is a thread under the Gala's sub forum dedicated to the WSR ASG. All the news will appear there or no doubt on Steve's excellent site at http://www.wsr.org.uk/

So do crews just decide what loco they'd like that day?> Is there no-one in charge of loco rosters?>

No, its simpler than that. The crews just spin the turntable, and whichever loco it stops adjacent to they light up.

You're looking at about 55 minutes from BL to Street; after which the last two miles to Glasto all go a bit Salvador Dali, timewise ...
