And I see the trip terminated at Finsbury Park because there was no diesel to take the stock back out of King's Cross - it was on the front of the train! So they just hooked right and away to Southall.

The Pacifics were always banned from the Midland lines and when one made a guest appearance at the works open day it always ran at reduced speed on the main line and crept over the connections. It sounds like another version of the gauging problem - NR don't know the curvature for rigid wheelbase machines.

    Well I was! :)

Pointy end of the up platform. ;)

My "Chauffeur" decided against Brookmans Park & plumped for Welham Green instead, due to his 'war wound'.

T'was a good choice - we could hear her leaving Potters Bar. :D

Must have been well hidden by the throng.
Her's my effort from Welham Green and later from Elton and Orston on the Nottingham line.

    Welham Green.

Interesting actions by NR signalmen this weekend. On this tour, the loco was sent on an unsuitable track resulting in damage to the water feed. Royal Duchy also affected by NR signalman who tried to put the loco on a platform that the driver knew was out of gauge.

Training needs for NR signalmen? Extra vigilance, as seen in Bristol, by the drivers>

Not the first time. In Scotland, GBIX was signalled away early when, if it had left, it would have blocked a ScotRail service and delayed it. WC driver contacted Control to get them to reverse the decision.

Yes, vigilance noted and it does illustrate that whenever a human is involved mistakes can be made and they are not always by a 'careless' TOC as some might feel.

On an SD trip in 2007 Two Halls to Chester, we were signalled into a platform at Chester which Halls were banned. Ray Churchill called control and we went into a different platform.

As Eric Clapton said when he first heard Jimi Hendrix play, 'I've got to go away and practice' Do that and you will be.

I recall Leander being "invited" to take a path ahead of a pendolino leaving Preston en route to carnforth. The driver did say he was willing to give it a go but maybe Virgin may be a tad irritated. This was a path offered about 20 mins ahead of plan.
