Had an e-mail through about this trip today as I am booked on it.
It seems that they have been having problems slotting the train in to the busy Network schedule on the outward run but they currently have people working on sorting this out. Tickets are due to be sent out first class post tommorrow.
Looking forward to this trip as it has been a while since I last visited the SVR.

A good example of how to keep the customers informed. Clearly they are expecting tickets to be available well in advance. As it's still a week away, I was not bothered given the late timings generally from NR.

Lets hope the diesel makes it's own way to the Valley for the return leg, though it's unlikely going on past tours over the SVR.

The diesel could well be a local one. It would have to be left at Bewdley anyway as TV is due to haul the return BH to Bewdley. I am waiting to see the WTT as there is nowhere to keep a long train at Bridgnorth and there may need to be an ECS move BH to BY and back again. The main line stock could be berthed in p3.

Firstly however we need the NR timings

According to the SVR website it arrives at Kidderminster at 2.00pm, so that would mean an arrival at Bridgnorth at 3.10pm based on times for the other services, or by 3.20pm at the latest since a train is due to depart Bridgnorth then. The website states it leaves Bridgnorth at 4.15pm and the Railway at 6.05pm , so 30 minutes allowed for change to Diesel .

The tour passengers dont get much ckance to ride SVR trains as per UK railtours blurb. They quote a layover of 3 hours. and the timins you quote are about one hour. It seems its all down to NR timings

Assuming that the Victoria departure is 0845, five hours to north of Birmingham seems a long time. But there is the notorious bottleneck that is Oxford to get through, I guess.

Indeed it is, but you have to go through Brum and to the north of it to get there or were you planning on the trip avoiding Birmingham and going via Worcester with a reverse?

Interestingly trains coming from the south via Birmingham do two 180 degree reversals to reach Bridgnorth. As pointed outyou travel north through Snow Hill and leave the northbound direction in a left hand loop to Stourbridge Junction from where you run on the UP line of the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton travelling southish to Kidderminster.. The SVR curves away to the right with a second aprox 180 degree turn to pass through Bewdley in an approx northerly direction

Edit: just realised via Moreton in Marsh would require a reversal/Diesel on arrival at Kidderminster.

It was the plan for one tour. The question is does the diesel come with the train from Victoria or is it attached at KD. An alternative in the nice to do category would be to allow Taw Valley out on to the main line to collect the tour. Hopefully things will soon become clearer.I personally would like things to be clearer as I am the Conductor Guard for the SVR section of the tour

No collection needed. Tornado is supposed to be going straight through to Bridgnorth. It's on the return that Taw Valley comes off somewhere at KD for the diesel to be attached. Be optimistic that DBC bring a diesel across from somewhere like Bescot.

Big Al - this was simply a hypothetical exercise should the Snow Hill route not be available to the tour. Snow Hill route has the advantage of a straight across connection and is less likely to disrupt LM services

On the return TV would come off at Bewdley for the diesel to be attached. That way the train can run straight into p1 at Kidderminster NR to drop me and the conductor driver off

From the information received today it looks as though the problem with timings has been getting out of London. Two hours from Victoria to Reading isn't exactly quick but there are several pickups en route to that point. The good news is that, as promised we seem to have long enough at the SVR to enjoy the railway. Reading between the lines - sorry out that! -it looks as though we will get a couple of hours at Bridgnorth and obviously longer on the railway overall.

Had the tickets through today. Not complaining too much about the long journey time from London to Reading as this gives us a good time allowance to get from Aldershot to Reading comfortably.
Still should be a good day out. It's almost a Gala on the SVR with seven loco's working over the line during the busy day.
SVR Loco roster has the following listed: 34053 (service train), 34027 (on ML charter, Bridgnorth to Bewdley), 43106 (FE), 7812 (service train), 60163 (ML charter, Kidderminster to Bridgnorth), D1015 (service train) and Class 66 (ML charter Bewdley to Kidderminster, back on to the national Network).

Not great for us in the far west now. Haven't done Victoria this year but now the only train available to us to get to Victoria is the 0447 from Bristol, the only cheap fare left on the GWR by the time the timings were announced. No time for the leisurely breakfast we thought we'd have time for either. Anyone found the detailed timings yet? I can't find the train on OTT or RTT.
