Whats actually happening with Port Line, my knowledge is lacking on this particular Bulleid. Last I heard she was sent to Rileys workshop on the East Lancs but he has now moved onto a private site has Port Line moved as well or she is at the East Lancs still?

Last i heard both 35027 and 35022 were at Crewe, waiting their turn in the overhaul queue.

I think that is correct - standing in line behind Clan Line, Nunney Castle and then Bittern probably.

How does Crewe decide on what engine gets overhauled? i would think a gauge friendly 8P would trump a Castle for instance, given the lack of suitable engines on the mainline at the moment, i can understand Blue Peter , theres not that many A2's about, and 35027 has all its bits,

I should imagine its something to do with work involved, we know 5029 has had it's problems but it's not that long ago it was on the mainline.

    Personal opinion.
It would be madness to prioritise 5029 over an MN.

Why would the owners of CoW need Ian Riley involving Mike, she is already restored to Mainline condition, I'm sure their CME can oversee the fitting of OTMR and associated kit without any problem ?

How near is British India Line close to completion, I've heard rumours she has had a steam test. Also could 257 squadron go mainline especially with Swanage running to Wareham soon.

From the photos that were posted on Facebook a couple of months ago it appears to be almost complete.

On your bike with that idea! - 5029 is the one we want back - not as if we have a surfeit of GW steam on NR currently.

Thats because all your GW types are now out of gauge for NR, very soon the only Western engines that will fit are the port of Par twins.

    Thanks Al! :D

It wasn't quite the shot I wanted......... I had hoped to go elsewhere for a wider angle, but having put a shift in time & tide were against me :(so I 'legged' it down the bank as far as was safe - never mind she came up at a fair lick!

Suppose its a case of 'hit & hope' when shooting more or less against the sun..........

But you're right about the skills needed to keep em on the road - she did the Belle that night & before she'd even gone off shed, the driver wanted to fail her - leaking like a sieve............... still she made the train, the driver got a rather spirited performance out of her & she didn't fail!

Oh, just had a thought....... for those lamenting the lack of Bulleid action, the MHR End of Southern Steam over 2 weekends next year should be quite a Bulleid fest, if what I was told last weekend is anything to go by! :)

Every pound spent on a GW is worth treble on a Bulleid pacific.

I agree, but I should imagine the work needed to get 5029 back in action would be a easier than to get a MN (that's not worked on the mainline before) there's the paper work for starters then things like the air brakes, OTMR etc etc
