Ian. Many years and many thousands of pounds have already been spent on the triangle. Is not using it the best use of all that investment?

No it isn't. But it's fun to consider all these pipe dreams. :)

  3. It would be nice if we could agree that the GWR offer to run the shuttle service shows further progress towards joint working and that the WSR is right to accept the offer in the spirit of the growing partnership. I really hope the shuttle is well used.

Whilst as someone who has been known to snap the odd WSR train over the years, I too am disappointed that the WSR's USP of turning locos at both ends will not be used to its full extent, I think the WSR has gone to some lengths, by turning locos 180 at Minehead, to maximise chimney-first running, within reasonable expectations.

The Triangles are used quite regularly by mainline stock, most of which goes unseen, and that usage brings in revenue for the Railway, so the investment is proving itself and will continue to do so in future years.

And of course folks still have the chance to travel over the Barnstaple Branch by Autotrain which is one huge positive at this event.

Hopefully the Plc will issue a detailed list of loco directions today and we can plan our linesiding accordingly.

Let's crack on with riding the trains and photographing the trains and, well, enjoy ourselves :)

    Steve

Any news on if the 3 carmine and cream coaches will be part of a 4 or a 6 coach train? 3 carmine and creams with the pannier or the 4f would be nice.
Any news on loco direction notices?

Could someone point me in the direction of a timetable for the main line shuttles from Taunton to Bishop's Lydeard?

That set will be a 'mainline' set. On Saturday it should have the QB attached, so gives a variety of liveries!
They are on the timetables on the WSR Autumn Gala webpage.

Do you mean those 3 "will be a mainline set", running on their own or will be part of a larger train? Sorry to have to ask.

That's a shame. Three is a bit half hearted. We could do with 3 more at least.

More will be painted as time permits, and they become due for a repaint. The C&W department have more pressing jobs at present - like keeping the current coaches running!

If someone was thinking about things properly from a planning point of view they would have ensured the 3 blood and custards were on the branch line set. Then there would be appropriate liveried stock to match what would have been the m7 and the other br liveried locos i.e. Pannier and 4f. I don't understand how you come up with an innovative plan like having branch line sets and not considering this part of it. A real shame when this was an option for the railway for the 1st time in years

  15. Any more joy anyone with the directions of smokeboxes?

  16. Nope. Sorry. If the info comes, please watch out for it on the WSR's facebook and twitter pages, and on the official website. I hope to be out and about during the event so won't be online to help spread the details until the evenings.

Meantime, have a look at my "best guesses" in an earlier post.

    As it stood tonight:

Minehead - Odney, Kinlet, 88 and pannier facing Taunton with 4f facing minehead.

BL - Ratbag, 1450 and 5542 but no idea which way round they are. 5542 was facing minehead on its last run today

Sorry I can't be more helpful than that and would love to know the actual plan if there is one

It would be great to see more volunteers coming forward to learn the art of hand painting coaching stock. There are plenty of vacancies AFAIK. It's a nice dry job as well which is a bonus.

  19. This is getting silly now. All me and others lineside want to do is get some decent video and photography. I guess its back to plan B, looking at all webcams on Friday afternoon to see which way everything is arriving and departing!
