Moretonhampstead and South Devon Railway

Тема в разделе 'Heritage Railways & Centres in the UK', создана пользователем SpudUk, 24 окт 2016.

Perish the thought that anyone should be anything other than deadly earnest and serious all the time on a railway forum.

I nearly smiled just then, but managed to avoid it by giving myself a stern talking to and standing in the corner for the afternoon.:(

Now that did made me smile, but the whole WIBN derision has got very old indeed.

Maybe WIBN could be changed to NTH (nice to have). ;)

How about "Wouldn't It Be Brilliant and Life-Enhancing" - or WIBBLE for short.

  5. If I might be so conceited as to quote my own post from another thread, Lplus... While I would never be so presumptious as to believe that other NatPres members agree with me, I think the following is a reasonable summary of why a number of regulars default into derision when the latest fantasist inevitably, and rather tediously, comes along...
Brilliant! Give than correspondent a gong :D

By main road about 15 miles, less if you hike over part of Dartmoor. ;)
There is no realistic way to connect the Ashburton Branch - which terminates at Buckfastleigh anyway - with the Moretonhamstead Branch which, as far as I recall, terminates around Teigngrace.

Rather than start a new thread, I am posting this here as John mentions the Stover Canal and Haytor Granite Railway.

Ah! I wondered if that old line would be mentioned. It served the country well during WW2.

Looking at an old OS map the route to Moretonhampsted must have been a very scenic one.

It was. Originally, when being proposed, it was hoped it would go a little further to Chagford, but that did not happen.

Thanks for sharing this - the restoration of the Stover canal is making good progress. It is a fascinating area for transport, even if the railway is at present out of use.

The route north of Bovey Tracey is (very) gradually being developed as the Wray Valley cycle route
