Quite a pleasant run around the Wakefield circle. Not too much shovage, and the climb through Outwood was excellent. Maximum speed was around 68mph.

I want to watch the light engine move today somewhere near Leeds / armley.
Is there a good viewing spot anywhere?

And without it, no chance of keeping out of the way of other traffic in the area, so you have a viable solution?

A very valid point and the train should be marketed as E + D accordingly.
Do you have a solution to the misleading omission in the promotion?

I witnessed Leander departing from York yesterday evening. I'm pretty sure that it was hauling 12 coaches, all maroon.
The loco sounded wonderful and the diesel didn't appear to be pushing at all. Well done to West Coast. <BJ>.

Those to whom the question of diesel assistance is important surely have the right to make an informed choice though so that they can reach your obvious level of satisfaction? A question of clarity, that's all because as @RalphW has mentioned, it is most likely an unavoidable necessity.

I had a wonderful day out on the SSE yesterday!
We have to remember that we are travelling on a modern railway using antique locos! Yes the diesel did push a bit yesterday, but if that meant that we kept to the timings and that if anything happened with Leander, we had a back up, then so be it. You could hear the engine working hard most of the time yesterday, and I for one had a great time and enjoyed my journey.
I wish people would stop moaning and just enjoy the experience while we can! Yesterday's train was probably the longest and heaviest on the network yesterday and West Coast ensured that it ran faultlessly.
If you really want to see an engine work without assistance then take a ride out of Keighley on the KWVR !!

To clarify, are you saying you don't have a problem with the advertising not being explicit?
For reference I fully accept the need for diesel assistance but think it creates an obligation to share the facts with prospective passengers.

Yes. HONEST marketing. Tell the customer what they are buying rather than misleading. Tell the customer in the sales details that they are on a steam hauled/diesel pushed service and let the market determine the success or failure.

Got it in one from my perspective, as I'd rather see an advert, not an essay- which is essentially reproducing the T&Cs despised by some on here. I'm not fussed on the advertising not revealing how many toilets are out of order on a rake of carriages, how many quarterlights won't open, and not including a price list of the contents of the buffet. Diesel isn't ideal, but I don't think you need telling that it is something the TOC or NR, NOT the promoter, might request closer to the time for operational reasons. Last night we had a little assistance out of Wakefield Westgate because we did momentarily sit down in the platform after the right-away. However, faced with the lottery of steam with or without diesel shovage or no steam at all, I know what side my bread is buttered.
