The times are now up on uksteaminfo for the Tin Bath, with only 3 minutes in Man' Vic' at 17.55 is there now steam back to Preston?

So, the same arrangement as in February then. And that was a brilliant day out with some impressive locomotive performances given that there was over 500 tons on the drawbar with the need for a diesel on the back to provide train heat. The sound of the unassisted climb up to Cowburn is still ringing in my ears.

The Tin Bath is one of the best itineraries out there so I hope it goes well.

Also reporting that timings allow Bolton stop both ways - and seats still available as at 13:00 today.

Sounds like a great tour in the making. Talking of Bolton, I travelled up from Berkshire to Bolton on Tuesday for a business meeting. Never been to Bolton before and have to say that the town centre is pretty run down and not very inspiring at all. In fact it looked horrible. That said, the people I met were from the area and they were just great.

This might be a silly question, but why is the stock and loco's coming into Preston from Blackburn on Sunday morning rather than Carnforth, according to National Rail the Barrow - Preston trains are all running which suggests there is not a blockade on the WCML north of Preston unless it is cleared very early but too late for the stock to run?

I'm from Bolton, living there from the 50's until 1989 before moving to just south of Preston, but my brother still lives in Bolton. Sad to say, I have to agree whole-heartedly with the comment on Bolton town centre. It's now a dump, with betting shops and amusement arcades dominating.

Given that it needs an hour from initiating a move from Carnforth WCRC yard to gaining main line access at the Up & Down Goods Loop, I suspect that drivers' hours may be a factor in the decision.

I don't think it needs an hour but that's what it seems to take. Besides the point really for me as this will be the first Tin Bath that I have missed in a while. Hope it goes well and the hopes for a pure steam tour are realised.

Considering that the train has to brought out of the yard in 2 sections then an hour is what it can take.

Living between Bolton and Bury we would have to echo the same comments, Bolton center is terrible towards what it was 20/30 years ago. We hardly go there now, Bury is a much better option with the extension to The Rock precinct shopping area. We have friends that have a Bolton center business, they keep the doors locked and do most stuff by phone/internet now!

All the marketing says Steam Hauled... It's what it is hauling that worries many!

No idea what you mean, it's usually well booked.
