The return is "Western" diesel-hauled. Premium fares £139 Std and £175 First,I guess justified for such a long trip.

 

I think the price can also be put down to the fact that the length of the train is also limited as stated in the brochure. Should be a good run though. I did a cracking one with 6024 and the Western on on the same route.

Cracking tour in prospect, but a difficult re-start from Par?

Can't the Eden Projecters alight at Snozzle?

 

Light engine moves are a bonus on the day too.

 

Has been done in the past so yeah possibly and tbh easier to get people out on buses from St awful then par, not Saying Pars impossible, just not as easy as st awful.
Also on the return they can make use of new lift towers at st awful to get across to reboard,

 

And you criticise people for bailing out of a tour because the motive power has changed to something they don't like.

 

Very tempting but can't find any mention of likely departure and arrival times for London. Difficult to commit without knowing if it fits in with train times to and from London on the GN.

 

They're shown on the A1 Loco Trust's site in the 2017 tour brochure as 0815 out 2250 back.

Thanks. As long as they aren't digging up the southern GN as they've had the habit of doing for the past couple of years on Bank Holidays, that's doable.

 

At first sight seems like a must do but as I can only afford std will probably be at back for steam part I know std is not always at back but always seems to be when I'm on trip!!! and don't fancy being up front with a smelly maroon box all the way back!

Same difference. You're exercising your right not to go in the first place due to what's hauling it. Others exercised their right to bail out when the motive power was changed mid trip.

Exactly the same difference and if anyone is making themself look stupid it's the person who won't book the tour because it's a "northern engine."

I'd happy book if there's an option just to do the return with heritage traction and not the new build,
We will have to wait and see won't we,
But I'm not paying £135 to sit behind a new build just for Champion back,
Doesn't make financial sense,£135 just for pnz to london, seeing as pathfinder are offering 530 miles of western haulage for £99, working out at about 5p a mile,
I know what the best option is..
