35018 British India Line

Discussion in 'Steam Traction' started by 34014, Sep 23, 2014.

This was the first post I read on this thread and my immediate reaction was how was the 2BIL going to power itself up the S&C? Well, you know, thread drift...;)

If it's an WCRC loco in WCRC colours it's not a 'might have been' at all. It's an 'is now' and is, therefore, entirely authentic.

Exactly the livery on the diesels is authentic, so why not a steam loco....

BR Express Green would be perfect. It would be neat to see 35006 and 35018 double-heading at the GWSR one day...

She was definitely not one of the better looking ships. Quite entertaining though were her electrics; the Engineroom auxiliaries were all DC, powered by three Allen diesel generators, 'faceplate' starters for the motors, DC lighting. At some stage she had also been fitted with AC power for the accommodation. I remember that the 'protection' around the DC switchboard consisted of a single teak handrail at waist height :)
    Happy days.

She was better looking before the rebuild, I think. I prefer the look of the Kampala personally, but couldn't find a nice photo quickly.
Anyway, let's not get into before and after rebuild discussions on a Bulleid pacific thread...

Maroon is the house colour of its current operating company and from an aesthetic point of view is arguably more attractive colour than BR green; it is certainly more photogenic which will appeal to the publicity department at WC. A handful of "purists" will be offended if it emerges in a new livery but history is exactly that and it would be difficult to match 35028 standards anyway.

Ah, "Idi", as we on the Scottish Eagle used to refer to her. I never had the privilege of doing the Ascension-Falklands trooper run with her - I did one on Cunard Countess and 3 on the "Keren" (ex Sealink's "St Edmund").

I rememberUganda coming alongside us one time and getting her approach horribly wrong. Her rivets destroyed 4 of our 7 fenders...

Whatever livery 35018 is painted in, it would be nice to see two white bands on the chimney :)

Are you suggesting they have one?

On an MN they would need to be very thin white bands and rather close together. ;)

Is there any foundation for the livery froth regarding 35018, have wcrc shown any historic inclination to paint steam in such a manner, last time I looked 46115 was in BR green, 44932 and 48151 in BR black and 45699 in (admittedly historically incorrect) BR maroon?

Look at 45699 again it's red but not BR maroon and by your own admission yes they have

If a loco carries a BR crest on it, then it is in BR livery. it might not be the right variation of BR livery, nor the shade of paint match your memory or expectation but it is BR livery non the less.

I'm afraid it's not. BR ceased to exist in 1997, use any livery carried before that is a BR livery anything else is fictitious. Paint the BBMF Lancaster pink and put an RAF roundal on it doesn't make it in RAF livery.

That's all it needs; just a nod to its heritage.

Now that WOULD look hideous on an MN...
