Given the type of customer that at least one of the new tocs hoping to operate with steam will be going for the most change needed will be to the menu and the wine list.

Did anyone happen to get a photo of 5043 and 6233 next to each other prior to departure from York?

It was a bit dark and wet, but isn't that now referred to as moody and atmospheric.

    Cheers!

Ben, alas they were not well positioned for photography and the crowds made it virtually impossible. I think you will see what I mean by my effort here:- IMG_2587 copy.jpg
It was still a very atmospheric to see the two follow each other out of York a few minutes apart. Here is your one setting off:-

    Peter that's tremendously atmospheric nonetheless.

After two days in one week in 2014 when consecutive departures from Fort William were steam hauled to different destinations,
two consecutive steam hauled trains up Shap on one day in 2015,
and now two steam hauled trains for different destinations sat on adjacent platforms in York in 2016 can main line steam come up with another 'double' next year.

I'm still amazed at what is actually achieved despite all the hurdles and problems to be overcome .

By taking the view that steam locomotives are less reliable than the locomotives of other operators you are clearly implying that their maintenance standards are not as good. I repeat, all locos have an FTR. Whilst steam maybe old, they are restored with new components when needed. With 50 year old 37s still active on the network I fail to see your point. You are talking steam down and abusing your privilege as a contributor to a national publication to so do.

Some of the best images are the less conventional ones and the first of those is absolutely superb. It doesn't always have to be about the locomotives and has been said, that atmospheric shot is a great capture. Approaching artistic in my view. Just needs a closer crop and it's done!

Indeed. Who would have thought to see two steam locos on adjacent platforms that long ago. Great atmospheric pictures.

Except of course it has happened at Carlisle at least twice that I know of in recent years.

I'm pleased that some of you liked the shot. I thought nothing of it as it was only a "grab" shot to record the scene with no thought about composition. I would not have dreamed of posting it if it had not been for Ben's request. Pity the two locos were not nearer to being alongside each other but at the time that was the least of everyone's worries. Who knows - maybe next year!

Being pedantic Ralph, they were not together in the station that day. If I remember correctly, 44932 had been to turn and came off the goods lines just as 70013 was setting off with the "SSE". They did not catch up with each other until Dringhouses.
    However there was this occasion:-
    2008_08240104 copy.jpg
Aug 2008 and a derailment had caused the "SSE" stock to spend the night at Scarborough and work back empty to Carnforth next day. At Bootham, on the approach to York, there was a handful of photographers waiting poised for No9 when we crept up unannounced behind them. To say they were gobsmacked would be an understatement! Happy Days!

That's a hell of a thing to pull off with a steam loco.
