    Well here we go again.
Trains stop running and trackwork starts again.
First renewal site Yorfalls roughly between the South side of Br 14 and Platelayers cottage crossing to the 1/2 milepost.
This site is about 700 metres in length and will be a mix of reusing existing F27 sleepers respaced to 26 per length and Steel sleepers at 28/l ready for CWR The rail is all new FB113A.
Adjustment switches will be installed as part of the works.
Some new Timber Pan 11 fitted sleepers will also be installed at the South end of the site over U/B 14.

Track removal started on Monday after lunch. To date 3 lengths of BH at the north end, and all the F27`s removed, and a start made on the Mills clip section, where we are currently 3 lengths north of Bridge 15. Most of the remaining will be removed tomorrow and all out sometime Thursday morning.
Start of relaying possibly on Friday.

Bit of a lull in all works at the moment due to the trains running again for a while.
Too cold for serious paint projects.

Wagon works have reduced due to a number of the fleet being in use ferrying new materials to the next worksite at the 14mp and recovering old material on the return.
This then being offloaded back at Newbridge during running days. Most of the recovered sleepers are being loaded straight to road transport to a dealer.

The next site at the 14mp will be approx 492yd or 450m removing a stretch of SHC concrete sleepers and replacing with new G44 concrete sleepers and new FB113A rails. Sleeper spacing is being changed from the original 24 per length to 28 as part of the work.
The SHC sleepers have been in place for approx 18 years so added to their main line life they are probably about 55 year old.
Uplift of these sleepers will start about Jan 4th or 5th and that should give us until Feb half term or about 3 weeks to complete the uplift, formation profiling, relaying and tamping.
Due to the curve radius this area will remain jointed as it is too tight for CWR.

    Happy New year to all.

I though it about time that I recorded my appreciation of these posts which I always read (once I have done my duty on the political stuff;)). All of our heritage railways must have works of this type going on and it only someone from each did a comprehensive blog like this it would surely raise their profile.

    Same for me.

Ironic that on the WSR thread folks are supporting a ban by their infrastructure manager on photos.

The difference being that, in the NYMR's case, the photos are taken by the Infrastructure Manager, or Chief Civil Engineer, in old parlance. I'm fairly certain that, if I turned up, camera in hand and took photos that I subsequently published without agreement, I would get a good ear-bending.

I also take some of the photos Steve.
But I think I try to use my head in what I am taking photos of.
One use of comparing different railway projects is to compare methods of working and see if better ways of doing the job can be found.

The Renewal firm I used to work for did this with its many gangs from around the country by bringing about 50 men together for a couple of days on a training site and tasked them with a 16 length relay.
The method of work had been previously decided by senior supervisory management investigation, People who knew what was needed and how to do the job, not Shiny A@@e office wallahs.
All gangs were then taught what was required. In some cases it was very close to methods already in use but to others it was a new ball game.

Had a ballast delivery today into deepest Newtondale, just below Skelton tower.
The last operational train of Seacows left on the network.
P Way lads really appreciated that.
37264 topped and tailed the 66 for the duration.

Should be enough for the Tamper and Regulator to play with tomorrow.
Just hope the weather plays nice but not according to the forecast.

Following on from the ballast tip on Wednesday the Tamper and Regulator came out to play on Thursday.
The Reg went through the site first to rough plough off the heaped ballast left by the Seacows.
The stone has to be below rail top before the tamper can go through or damage will happen to the feeler rods underneath.
Once that was done the Reg retreated to Levisham were the Tamper was waiting, the pair swapped over and the tamper came up to site and set up.
A Measuring run was done with the onboard ALC system and once this had been confirmed the tamper set off at 12.00, 650 metres later at 16.30 it finished.
Tamping on a first pass is never speedy.
Once the tamper had started the reg reappeared and once the brush box was set up it tidied up the loose ballast.
Following the tamp a repeat measuring run was carried out to check what was achieved and provide a record of the state of the track.
Sometime in March a further ballast tip and tamp will be carried out to titivate the design and rectify any settlement that has occurred following half term running.
