I think the aim is to show it in all it's livery variations over the term of the first boiler certificate. Nothing wrong with that, at least they will all be authentic and the first choice was by a membership vote

And if in a fit of pique either of these engines ends up in S&D Blue(which is nice...) I care not, as long as they are pulling trains...

Not quite sure if the S&D was predominatly blue. Most engines of the time had exterior wooden shells, and mainly were kept that way. The Weardale Railway I think adopted a plum and cream colours but eventually they all became part of the North Eastern Railway and adopted NER Green.

Personally, with regards to 35018 I actually like the idea of it being outshopped in something very similar to Galatea's Maroon livery scheme. I think if done correctly that would look very good and like others, think that it would be interesting and appropriate for an engine of WCRC in 2017.

Reinvent in terms of renewing or gaining further interest in an engine.

For example once seen/travelled with/photographed in one colour it moves down the 'to do' list.

Repaint/renumber it means for some people doing it all again so back to the top of the 'to do' list.

I don't think that's true, it's railway preservation remember, a railway photographer goes for more than just the loco, I have dozens of shots of 35028 and will get more. The Southern trains this summer will allow me to go back and do some locations I didn't get back in 67. In other words a nostalgia trip for me and a glimpse of the past for those who are a bit younger. I hope 35018 is there but if it doesn't represent what Southern steam was all about then I'll stay at home. It's the reason why I've never pointed a camera at a certain red Jubilee.

You could always try black & white - you hardly notice the colour! If I had a scanner I'd post up my print of 45699 near Totton last August to prove the point (unfortunately, I don't), but I think somewhere on this forum is a b&w picture of 48624 when it was in red and again, you couldn't tell.

The 8F was lined so I think you would need a bit of PS work, I waited until it was dirtied up for a charter

So repainting 6233 in BR green generated no further interest in it, that it wouldn't have already got?

Putting 4472 back as 60103 generated no additional interest (from enthusiasts!!) not Joe Public

Sorry but in my opinion repaints/renumbering locos does.

With regard to one of your other posts you suggest that you have no interest in 45699 because its red. Presumably you would be far more interested in it if it was in green then?

Missed the point totally they are all realistic recreations of how those locos appeared in the past and he I would if it were green and would be in red if it lost a digit off the number and had LMS on the tender

Leander didn't annoy me a good example of a Jubilee in as near as you can get in 1930s condition.

On a mainline with welded track, overhead wires, modern signalling, no lineside gubbins, etc., etc. Because it is 2017 and not 1957! Let's celebrate steam being alive now, not always hanker after the years of its decline...
