Only if we (yes I am that generation!) actually get involved physically in existing schemes rather than just sit at home on facebook coming up with schemes and waiting for the money to roll in.

If this lad lives in Weymouth hes very close too one of the countrys best heritage railways anyway. Why not help somewhere established and meet a lot of people his own age and get stuck in rather than dreaming.

Being practical Portland to either Swanage Rly or Yeovil Steam Centre isn't easy on public transport and he may not have a car or motor bike.

I didn't get far before giving up through exasperation at the stupid spelling mistakes, typos and generally bad grammar.

    For example,

Services will run in the summer and shoulder months, Sundays and bank holidays are a safe amount. thus creating a greater tourist footfall for the harbour area.

What the heck does that mean??

I think that he has completely under-estimated the cost of track renewal & loco hire for starters.
Join an established railway & stop dreaming up unworkable schemes.

People have been saying that for many years. Fortunately most have ignored such advice but in this case, I think you're right.

Much as I would like to see this line in operation again having been fortunate enough to travel on it three times in the early 70's (should have been four but that is another very funny story which I will post if anyone's interested), I'm afraid I would have to agree that the hurdles are going to be too great on this one and it is time to let the line go.

The tests for a mini tram in 1997 look as if they did not work out which was probably the best option to save the tramway. I wonder if they had used the heavier battery powered motors rather than flywheel might have worked. But keeping safety with cars, vans, bikes etc would be an issue?

The BIG unknown has always been the track.
In what condition are the sleepers under the road surface; are they all there; are all the chairs intact; are all the screw fixings and (wooden?) keys intact?
After so many years of non-maintenance I suspect there would be many, and costly problems to overcome.
Anyway, at long last it's going to be razor blades it seems.

While its sad to see it go, there is The Bristol Harbour Railway, complete with Muppet car drivers. More importantly however how important is the Weymouth Harbour Tramway in the broader sense. How many others were there?

I believe there is still standard gauge track extant along parts (all?) of Braye Harbour's breakwater in Alderney from when it was built and for subsequent maintenance. It was changed during WW2 by the German occupiers but, subsequently, was re-laid to standard gauge.
The Alderney Railway do not use it as they start at Braye Road Station to Mannez Quarry Station: https://www.alderneyrailway.gg/train-route

Is it actually chaired, sleepered track? I would have thought it more likely to be tramway style with tie bars. Whichever way it's probably well past it's sell by date and best to just put it out of its misery.

Does it actually cause a problem though that warrants its removal? I’m certainly not advocating running trains, but leaving the rails would keep in place a reminder if the heritage of a town which does, after all, rely to a large degree on tourism. I sometimes think we are too keen to rip out reminders of our past just because they have ceased to serve their original use. What exactly is gained by removing the rails?

I believe cyclists getting caught in the rails and falling off their bikes is the main problem that’s been cited.
