I strongly suspect the above post is getting the reaction the poster intended it to.

Cmon Ian theres to much use of the like button on here and corporate backslapping ,then someone makes a comment and becomes a villain
Forums are surely about opinion I have mine you have yours. No way was I going to make a 200+miles round trip for one shot.
When I put shots on here I want criticism not backslapping. We all want to make ourselves better at photography

A good slot on the ITV news covering today's run just now. Ok, not 100% technically correct, but not bad compared to some of the other media companies articles. Great to see everyone's videos and photo's from today. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I positively welcome all these photos of Tornado (they're all better than any I'd manage) having spent a twelve hour shift working in a small room with no windows and roughly the same level of light as one would get shining a torch towards the ceiling. The only daylight was going to the bog!

I noticed Huw Edwards and Danny Savage pointed out on the 10 o'clock news that these were the first timetabled services in England.

I'm reserving judgement till Thursday, but am delighted that today has by all accounts gone well.

It's the way you express it. Not every picture I see is to my liking and whilst I don't believe in giving false praise, I don't believe in telling people their shots are rubbish, crap etc. Criticism yes but constructive criticism.

Just a suggestion from the lineside BUT with light that poor would it have been worth attempting a PAN shot ? No crits of your attempt per se but trying to help offer a solution to poor light - it's my first thought when light levels drop below a certain point.

Why not ? In the past I have driven a 250 mile round trip to photograph 6024 on the SVR dining train - and I was very pleased with the result. I have also been known to fly to East Germany to specifically photograph Class 86 86.001 - although I did get a few other images during the trip !
