Indeed. Northerns parent company Abellio hold a number of franchises so potential across the country is real.

Is Arriva still part of DBC?

I thought he suggested E Anglia and Cornwall but that's just on one hearing. Really looking forward to tomorrow.

Not 100% sure either way, but recall that last time I used an ATW service it still had the DB stickers on the outside.

    Lifted from Wakipedia

'Arriva UK Trains Limited is the company that oversees Arriva's train operating companies in the United Kingdom. It gained its first franchises in February 2000. These were later lost, though several others were gained. In January 2010, with the take-over of Arriva by Deutsche Bahn, Arriva UK Trains also took over the running of those formerly overseen by DB Regio UK Limited. After taking control of the Northern franchise, Arriva UK Trains now operates almost a quarter of all British train operating companies, more than rivals FirstGroup and Stagecoach.'

Which makes it even more odd that northern are hiring stock, locos and drivers off DRS to run the Cumbrian Coast stuff?

I stand corrected. I chose the wrong A. But the principle stands as Arriva, who are part of DB, operate a number or franchises so it could go wider.

Maybe they just inherited the contract and have to see it through? Future fleet shows no role for these. Sad as it can be a good trip up the coast with a noisy 37.

I suspect it will all depend on whether a return has been achieved, whilst its possibly an internal charge having two sets of crew for the service will cost more than just running a 158, plus hire of loco and stock?

Ultimately publicity is nice and all that but money talks.

Probably not the home for this debate but do DBC actually have anything ETH fitted that will go round the coast? We have been given no clues as yet what we will be getting for our local services once the music stops on the great northern stock shunt round, I suspect at best will be grotty 156's cascaded from elsewhere.

I can't see that happening. Just think of the disruption that would be caused to regular travelers. Have you no concern for these people? You really need to take your enthusiast blinkers off and consider others. ;-)

I think the supposition is correct, that the contract with DRS to provide the 37s and stock was signed prior to Arriva taking over the Northern franchise. I have a feeling it is supposed to run until either 2018 or 2019. I'm sure DB could provide 67s if loco haulage was required beyond that date and with Mk 3 stock and DVTs likely becoming available from Anglia, it would be a possibility, even though a 67 would not be particularly well suited to that diagram. However, I think it far more likely that cascaded Units will find there way onto the coast by the time the 37s are ditched.

Yup. They would have to think about putting an extra coach on the steam train and slip in some extra service trains...;)

Just pulled into Kirby Stephen a minute early. A couple of dozen on the platform, certainly not the crowds that some had forecast.

My effort from Helwith Bridge this morning. The sun was shining almost directly into the lens, so the exhaust is bleached out somewhat. There must be a way to improve that in photoshop, but that's beyond my skill set ATM ! Was nice to see some families with small kids out waving at the train and, as always, some nice people around to chat with.
