A week in the Harz gets off to a fine start with double headed Mallets 99 5901 and 5902 seen just outside Drei Annen Hohne with a special from Wernigerode to the Brocken Mallets in the woods.JPG

Looking forward to your video - hope it's not too cold - especially at the top.

Thanks Fred, keeping an eye on the webcam each morning to see if it's worth going to the Brocken. Tuesday is looking a possibility according to the forecast

Surely that's half the fun of going up the Brocken. Freezing to death on the front balcony and then getting even colder at the top. A few Schierke Feuerstein soon thaws you out though. :)

Some of us have reached the age where such "fun" is final and the saying that "Cold can kill" becomes a reality; we have reached the stage where mortality becomes the new morality.

You obviously managed to get plenty of action during your visit; looking forward to your next video if it's only half as good as Volume 1.

A nice selection but few from Brocken - was it too cloudy or did you not manage to reach the summit ?

Thanks. It was too cloudy Fred. We looked every morning, with the intention of going up, but it was always shrouded in cloud. Of course since we came home it has been clear!!

Thanks Alan. It's a cracking line and a beautiful area, so unspoilt.

It might have been worth checking at Wernigerode / Drei Annen Hohne to see their webcams as - sometimes - the cloud is below the summit and the top is clear. It explains the local legends re witches as - in olden days - those on the top at Brocken would see shadows flitting through the clouds but didn't realise it was their shadow being displayed on the clouds below. They thought they were witches and this led to the creation of Faust in the "twiggy" form that is represented today.

On your next visit check the HSB webcams; if you are on the internet try : http://www.hsb-wr.de/en/mehr-erkunden/webcams/
