Actually GW 2-8-0 3817 and B.R. Std 76080 were also cut up in 1972/3. A few bits of both survive e.g. the centre wheelset of 76080 which was to go on 82045 but had the wrong number of spokes IIRC.
As mentioned above the locos at Barry were comprehensively stripped, often by groups or individuals who intended to buy a loco but never actually did. Often those 'spares' went into someone's back garden or shed never to be seen again or were later re-sold at a very nice profit. In the early 70's some organizations legally purchased far more 'spares' than they would ever need leaving certain classes such as Jinties and small Prairies woefully short of motion parts. Remember that, at this time, no-one expected that nearly all of them would be preserved.
Re 35011 I still believe that the best way forward would be to work with other groups and 'pool' the best bits of 35010/11 and 25 to make two 'good' ones plus a spare boiler but it's not my engine.
    Ray.

I would imagine some things such as oil trays, sump pumps steam reversers have all been made new by verious groups, some most probally as part of bulk orders, so some parts may well have been surplus to requirements, most are non ferious fittings, gun metal, or brass, so very likily would not have been on any Barry escapee unles a very early one, i wonder were any parts made for 35022 whilst she was part of Southern Locomotives?

I wonder how many loco parts were stored away for safe keeping in people's homes but over a period of years have been skipped by family members not knowing what these parts are.

We took our whistle to Eastleigh last week to do all the finishing touches. Great to have our first piece finished now for the project. The whistle can be seen resting on the buffer beam of Canadian Pacific

Any news when 35011 will move from it's current home to a new place to allow the overhaul to start.

    Thanks

Not at the moment sadly, we are working on getting a new home established for GSN but the issue still comes down to the lack of credibility we have. With each passing month our credibility improves with our growing number of supporters, people volunteering to help out and securing these parts we are after. We plan to start regular working parties next year to get as much done at Sellindge as we can. We are confident that the right offer is just around the corner and everyone we speak to is really interested and supportive of the project.

This project feels to me like a very long haul with issues ahead of a similar scale to Galatea, But the Jubilee is now out and about so there is no reason why GSN shouldn't appear one day as well. I wish everyone well but it is a massive project.

We are proud to show off the first parts the C.I.C. was able to purchase for 35011 as a result of the successful launch of our share offer.

On the 30th December 1944 21C11 General Steam Navigation entered traffic to begin her career with the Southern Railway. 72 years later General Steam Navigation is on the long road to return to steam and to mark her 72 birthday we have a rather special video. Its the earliest known footage of General Steam Navigation taken in 1947 her arriving at Bournemouth Central.

You help support GSNs return to steam by joining the General Steam Navigation Locomotive Restoration Society or by purchasing shares in the locomotive. You can find out more by visiting our website www.35011GSN.co.uk

The society had a very successful visit to the Swanage railway this weekend. We launched our new range of merchandise at the event and it was by far our most successful event in terms of sales and chatting to the enthusiasts. Thank you to all those who visited us in the booking office at Swanage station.

We've got a few solid leads but we can't discuss anything until we have agreement all signed. Things are going in the right direction tho.
