We do it once a year, except we sail up from Weymouth and moor in Swanage Bay. Think it is planned from the first week in August this year.

I heard someone from the stand say that they had sold out and that was just after 34053 arrived with the goods in the afternoon on the Saturday.

Confirmed. Two lots of mugs sold out. There may be a reprint. Suggest you contact the shop and put your name down for one. I also missed out.

Confirmed to have sold out. But a second batch has been ordered, and should be in the shop for Easter I'm reliably informed...

Hi Robin - I was going to put the same shot up for you, however, here's another one, un-rebuilt this time. P1030084.JPG

I see that you also discovered the location where the line goes under the A351 at Cat's Eye Bridge. I was there on Saturday and think it is going to be a popular spot when services start running regularly beyond Norden. There don't seem to be too many other good spots on the climb to Furzebrook - at least not that I could observe from the train when travelling on that bit of line (apart from near the overbridge at Furzebrook itself.)

Had a busy week at work so only just getting back to all this but what a superb - and packed - gala. The late running on Sunday (heard a points failure quoted on one of the trains as the cause, was that correct?) wasn't a problem for me as I had a free evening and only live 45 minutes away, so it was bonus evening running instead. Hope it didn't mar the day for too many people with longer journeys home. I'm becoming a very big fan of the north of Norden section for both noise when on the train and photographic opportunities when out walking. Missing out on the double-header away from River Frome due to being stranded at Harmans by the non-stopping stopper was disappointing. As that was the second train of the day to miss a booked stop there, then hopefully some way of reiterating to crews when they ARE supposed to stop there can be factored into the planning if that timetable's to be used again at future galas, which I hope it is as I rather liked it.

Great to finally see inside Herston works too, well worth the extra walk over there. Meant to ask the person on the desk but forgot - what was the small boiler nearest to the door from?

Also found it a particularly sociable and friendly event. Rarely had quite that many conversations with strangers when at photo spots. In case they're on here, hello in particular to the young-ish and endearingly sweary guy from the 70013 support crew who was at the crossing just south of Corfe for 92 Squadron on the freight on Sunday afternoon and to the chap who reminisced about the last train to Ringwood when I met him on the bridge at Furzebrook waiting for 92 Squadron on an up service later that afternoon.

Brilliant day to end a brilliant weekend that began with the Bluebell diesel gala.

That'll be me. Hope the trek back to your car through "the swamp" wasn't too bad!

Press release on the Swanage web site reports that 5700 people travelled over the 3 days. If you say that as an average spend of £25 a head, income was over £140,000. This would suggest that the costs have been covered and a little bit to go toward the tarpaulin to cover the T3.

    Ducks and runs away.....

We've already expressed our thanks to the Swanage people but I'd like to go on record and say that they're a great bunch of guys and gals down there and couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful if they'd tried. We had a grand time and the 34081 team is looking forward to a repeat visit in due course.

Completely agree, was my first trip to the railway and had a great time even tho I was on the GSN stand all day rather than riding trains.

Several more great Swanage events through the remainder of the year for a repeat visit. I already have my 3 late turns requested at Swanage box for the Diesel Gala.......:)
