I wish! There's a reason why the first class offering has got worse over the years, and Pullman branding wouldn't reverse the trend.

Calm down dear :) I was considering the same things ... Unless you are implying that table cloths and lamps were somehow significant? :)

In your view then, much the same as the Silver Jubilee.

In engineering they were most important in the development of the High Speed Diesel Electric Multiple Unit, from diesel inception with the NER 'doodlebug' through to the HST(and seemingly concluding here!). GWR railcars were mechanical things, slow speed stuff, like DMUs. They were a serious attempt to go faster reliably and bizarrely regularly hauled as ECS by GWR Pannier tanks, rather than 'failed'. Not sure the creosote class quite appeals, cheese butty specials probably less profit but more fun.

Sounds a bit better than 'slow stuff'. Also the first ever UK 'Inter City' diesel train?

But is the HST important because of its transmission or overall concept? If the latter, then I think the GWR railcars are a vital part of the story.

A HST in blue and yellow. Sounds a better plan?

I think you are way over the top with that remark, people may have said things like 'It will never run again' or plain 'you must be mad' but sneered, no.

On the contrary, I think we were wildly over-optimistic about how quickly we could get them back into working order.

How many people involved in the P2 project ever saw one running?

Indeed how many preserved railway volunteers can remember BR Steam?

  12. What a bizarre statement. How would it have 'much greater route availability' than FrankenBelle with a diesel loco hauling it? Which how FB would (very easily) traverse the parts of the network without a juice rail.

(Or indeed propelled by a 33/1 or 73, as it is being fitted with the MU equipment from the donor 400 series stock)

One big downside is you won't be allowed passengers in the power car.

Quite right but ignorance is bliss. If we'd known just how long some projects would take, would we have started in the first place?

Passengers are allowed in the lead car of the Hastings Unit when it goes mainline, I think the argument being having the big EE lump further forward offers additional protection, So maybe the same could be argued for a Blue Pullman ?.

Unless your looking at some sort of cut n shut HST job (Why ?, it'll just be a frankenstein HST) I think it's a project too far, The Brighton Belle stock all still existed, albeit needing modifications, You'd have to build a 6 or 8 car BP rake virtually from scratch, Doing a single loco or coach new build is hard enough but 6/8 ?.

There's already a Blue Pullman set in operation, although I haven't seen it around for a while. Looks like it's based on a rake of Mk2 coaches. It looks quite convincing, despite being loco hauled. If something like this was used as a starting point then the only new build would be the power cars.

I'm not saying this would be trivial.

Was basically a set of Air Con Loco Hauled Mk2's painted in the livery, Mk2's don't have the same through wiring to work with power cars that MK3's do, That's before any conversion from loco hauled to HST operation.
