41313 overhaul at East Somerset for IOWSR

    Some excellent pipework there!!

    As a matter of interest is copper pipe for steam loco's bent by annealing and sand loading? There's clearly a lot more skill involved than in forming 15 and 22mm diameter pipe for domestic plumbing and heating....

    Unless it's a very tight bend, you can usually bend thick walled copper pipe without filling with sand. Just heat till cherry red and tease it round, moving the torch along the pipe as you progress the bend. Don't force it, though.

    Anything under 1" diameter doesn't need filling as you say but anything over will flatten at the bends if not filled.

    Is there a british standard for locomotive copper pipe? There's loads of information on Table X,Y and Z the plumbing / heating varieties
