Reported 7' L ex Carnforth, 52'L Settle Jn, 52' L arriving Hellifield GL.
    No delays attributed so far.
Hosing down bearings doesn't sound like good practice.
    Cheers, Neil

David Smith, Ian Riley who cares? Someone's taken 143 tons of cold rusty unloved metal and turned it into a living machine again. Shouldn't they deserve a bit of praise rather than 'I don't like the colour'?

Lack of pictures so far suggest the cloaking device is working well!

Totally agree complaints about the colour are pointless in the extreme. It will finally be a fully operational loco again, which is enough.

How far had restoration progressed when it ended up at 10a?

It was very advanced when it left Ropley but regressed somewhat at Portland. Not to the extent that it was a wreck though. I recall Mr Riley speaking very postively of its condition when agreeing the purchase that Mr Smith, or a very good friend , gazumped.
Expressing praise for one does not imply a slur on the other by the way.

The Carnforth outfit are not perfect by any means (nobody is) but let's hear it for them, we as enthusiast would be a hell of a sight poorer without them, TOP MARKS to David Smith and Carnforth, we are indebted.

How do you know?.........Mr Riley didn't do the job so we'll never know. Carnforth have done a good job.

Well said that man. There are those who restore steam engines but sadly plenty more who just sit at a keyboard and criticise.

It's not as though 10A hasn't had any other locos to repair now is it?

As red and yellow are 92 Squadron RAF's colours, I have to say that I rather approve of that scheme. :)

Come on now 60017. Restoring a loco to main line condition is an inexpensive doodle. Any keyboard warrior can tell you that. :)
