Should do. It has a gauge-friendly chimney fitted (and new blast pipe to improve draw, which was adversely affected by the shorter chimney)

I think he is talking about the wide cylinders rather than height.

6023 is still waiting a gauging report from network rail.
Some kind of laser test or other. I will endeavour to find out more when I am at DCR on Saturday 29 as GWR 813 rep.

Ah, OK. I assumed they (like Castles) were ok in the cylinder department, and it was Halls and Manors that has issues due to them being tapered. I guess the King is overall bigger anyway.

I don't think so, The King and Castles are the same nominal width, the longer wheelbase has an effect on swing over, but there are now a lot of places (often platform edges) that are tight. The track has moved over, possibly to help with access to narrow stock. Hence why we're putting narrower cylinders on 6024.

Be interesting to see how it performs with these new cylinders, has there been something like the vampire thing the A1 trust did to check everything will work?

Though a few years ago 6024 with its original-size cylinders was allowed to turn left at Acton and work into Euston, much to my surprise (and which I took advantage of by joining the train at Ealing Broadway).

The design is almost identical to the originals, the change is to the material, a higher grade of cast iron, which has allowed reduction in the ribbing of the cylinders. The centre line of the cylinders is exactly the same, but the width over the cylinders is less.

Does anyone know of any developments regarding proposed load testing for 6023?

Maybe you'd be best to ask Didcot directly? A lack of response on here does not equate to no action 'on the ground'

    Really?
That's going to limit things a bit then - no Bulleids, N15, S15 or Lord Nelson, no Kings, Castles or Halls, no Duchesses, Princess Royals, Scots, Jubilees, 8Fs, or black 5s, no Tornado, Flying Scotsman, A4s or P2 (I'm sure I've missed more, but you get the idea!).

What exactly would you see running mainline tours then....

In another thread Hermod has designed a proposed new build 100mph express 2-10-0 with inside cylinders.
