It looks fantastic. Just needs the BR emblem on the tender. Would be nice to see it in a War Department scheme at some point in the future.

Bit early to ask, but the good lady's WI group are heading over to Sheringham next weekend, I know it's the Dad's Army thing on Sunday and Monday, would this mean the y14 and B12 would be in action? I still haven't had them yet!

Just wondered, what was the first operational steam locomotive on the NNR?

At a guess I'd say Ring Haw.

I don't think Ring Haw arrived there till the early 70s, so I'd guess at the Manning Wardle 0-6-0ST - was it "Conway"? - or the Peckett 0-6-0ST that is now at N. Tyneside Railway Museum.

In the early 70's, we often spent the Easter and Whitsun bank holiday weekends at the Kelling Heath caravan park. I remember seeing a yellow 0-6-0ST in steam at Sheringham station. I can't remember its name, but it may have been the loco shown in one of the pictures down the side of this page: http://www.mandgn.co.uk/page.php?pid=44

I do remember seeing Ring Haw there, but not in steam.

Anyone know anything about the blue saddletank behind John D Hammer in that pic? Not seen it on any pics of the NNR before.

Surprisingly one of the first, if not the first, loco steamed on the NNR was J15 65462. It was steamed in 1968 and was known to have been test run at Sheringham before it was failed with a cracked firebox and leaking tubes. As mentioned above the first two stalwarts were Peckett 0-6-0ST no. 1970 ex Ashington No.5 (initially in blue named Dougall) and Kitson 0-6-0ST 'Colwyn' 5470 Stewart & Lloyds Minerals no. 45. They were later joined in steam by Hunslet 0-6-0St 1982 ' Ring Haw', Blyth Harbour Hawthorne Lesley 0-4-0ST 'Pony' and for a short while Stephenson Hawthorn 7765 Ashington Colliery No: 40 (quickly moved to Colne Valley Railway).

Seens as we're examing the past could I ask how 'operation coach belle' happened ? How long did it take to lay the track? And how long was it down for?

Think I had read that Operation Coach Belle was undertaken in under 24 hours. May be completely wrong. But must have been done very quickly, considering it was across one of the main routes in to the town centre, at a time when there were less fans of the railway in Sheringham.
