Yes, they do, as do 9Fs and the other standards, but the valve spindle guide is also doing double duty suspending the combination lever. IIRC rebuilt Bulleids also have valve spindle guides on the inside cylinder, which of course was all new at rebuilding and had the steam chest centreline put in a convenient place for conventional valve gear.

The problem is that you are usually SO negative, so we tend to miss it when you are actually being positive.

Well I guess its all a matter of perspective, and quite a few of the regulars round here seem to have none too positive hobby horses, but I at least tend to steer away from any personalised criticism.

Economy Tom. Times were hard and there was a lot of spare battleship grey paint going cheap after WW1.:)

Here is 35018 British India Line at Salisbury 1961 ...poor quality photo as I only had a 5/0s Woolworth camera ..but that was her in the day on an express from Waterloo to Exeter . Glad she is back in steam on the main line .
This may have been on the ACE or a portion thereof , as it was taken in the summer around lunch time on a weekday . So a 11.00 departure from Waterloo would put it in that time frame .

Interesting angle. Not that I have studied too many pictures of MNs, but that pic shows up some lumps and bumps I have not really noticed before. Thanks.

Normally its a stones steam powered generator, yes the engines do have a very extensive lighting set up, cab lights, water gauge lights, a light over the reverser scale , i'm not 100 per cent sure but isn't there also a light to illuminate the injector pick up ? then theres the route marker lights on both engine and tender. the idea was i think to do away with oil lamps on the engines apart the tail lamp, as i cant remember seeing any filter on the lamps only the on/off switches .

There is a light over the injectors, also one above each driving wheel under the running plate for oiling up etc, and there's also a downward pointing light on the rear of the tender for coupling up at night

Hope they remember to turn them all off at the end of the day, or they'll have to jump-start it in the morning.

With all that going on theres probably not enough Juice for fixed bright Head and tail lamps as well.
