As I see it, the main difference between Blue Peter and Tornado is that one is a preserved locomotive and the other is a new build. I'm not saying one is preferable to the other, it just that they have different histories and different merits.

Have the little foibles and quirks mentioned in post #219 been addressed on Tornado?

Apart from the multiple valve regulator, I can't think of any foibles and quirks that it doesn't share with LNER locos in general, especially the Pacifics. It has a round topped firebox so you need to be more careful with high water levels but that again is common to round topped boilers generally. With Belpaire boilers you can more easily get away with over-filling the boiler as you still have a fair amount of steam space above the water line. The reverser screws are quite coarse and will easily spin if not held or preferably locked in place. In contrast, Stanier & BR Standard reversers will generally stay where they are if not locked, the latter especially

From the reading I did on the Icons site I think that LNWR is going to be tackling 60532 which in my opinion is really good because the quality of their work has really been showing with what they did to get 46100 going.

They have successfully removed the middle cylinder without having to split the frame which is good news

That's impressive. I wonder if they just jacked the frames apart slightly to provide a tiny bit of clearance.

Wish I could say more than
'one has got bigger wheels' or
'one is in a nicer shade of green'
but that's about what it boils down to.

If we want to start willy waving, Blue Peter got to 140 mph, so :p Joking aside maybe in a few years time we could have a nice little tour up the ECML involving 60163 doing something like KX York and then 60532, York Edinburgh, now wouldn't that be nice!

Very clever how they have hidden the pantograph in the cab roof.;)

Or even 'Tornado has electrics'. Though some thought will no doubt be going into this part of Blue Peters Restoration as well...

To keep up the sequence it would have to be an A3 and an A4.

Forgive going a tad O/T, but this is probably the least inappropriate thread on which to note the passing of yet another talisman of many a childhood.

BBC Blue Peter presenter John Noakes RIP

  18. Blue Peter has electrics. Unless I'm imagining the electric lighting it's had since it was built.

For me personally I've never seen Blue Peter in action before so I'm really looking forward to it when it does come back is there any recent news?

Hopefully it will be running on the Dundee to Aberdeen line When the Ferryhill Turntable is restored.
