Yep a tapered reamer. It is cutting through the pre. drilled holes in the frames, and then through the drilled holes on the cylinder flange. Cylinder alignment is ensured by the use of dowels. Final fix will be with fitted bolts.

I'm glad you like the term 'flange'.:) The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines it thus: 1. n Projecting flat rim, collar or rib, used for strengthening or attachment. Seems the perfect descriptive and engineering use of the word, as both these requirements are met.;)

Cannot believe there's not been more replies to this! That is a superb update. I know it's mostly visual in many respects, but how good does this look ladies and gentlemen!

More and more impressed with the new builds of railway preservation every single day. Keep up the great work everyone.

The increasingly frequent updates about 82045 are always on my regular website trawls, and are always gratefully devoured. Progress over the last couple of years is ever more impressive, and the latest crop are no exception. It's fantastic to see the loco's "face". Roll on the side tanks (I'm sure Barrie's team will welcome the space at Dinas!) and boiler.

I'd also add my appreciation of the website team's work. If only all new build websites could be of this quality

Forming the boiler parts does not need a railway dedicated workshop. For the 3mt the boiler barrel, in 2 parts was rolled by a steel fabricator. The two halves of the boiler, straight and tapered, were eased into shape at the join by heat and a big hammer in the SVR boiler shop

Ah, you have my apologies good sir. I did not know that was in existence. That's pretty magnificent.

Right well, we can make a boiler then, that' that settled. Egg on face

Just been reading the website, the boiler for Taw Valley is approaching a new build! Incidentally, I think my dad knew Bert Hitchen...

Wouldn't it be nice to get 82045 and Beachy Head together at some point? Maybe with 2999, 5551 and 6880? There I've said it!
