I've just received in my inbox the latest advertising flyer from West Coast Railways, for the Scarborough Flyer. I'm really interested to know what the motive power is going to be...! Has the Hetton Colliery Loco. been secretly mainline certified? Or will it be a double-header with Locomotion and Derwent? Just having a bit of fun, the specials (and prices) look inviting, as do their S&C tours. I need some days off!

    Richard.

Due to the high demand for seats last year we once more offering passengers the chance to travel from the West Coast of Britain en route to historic York then across North Yorkshire to the Spa town of Scarborough on the East Coast. Vintage Mark I and II carriages pull out of Carnforth on two routes, collecting passengers at various pick up stations. Arriving in York we pick up one of the oldest Steam engines in the world and continue by steam across North Yorkshire to Scarborough, where we have around three hours to enjoy and explore. Alternatively passengers may choose at alight at York and discover the many attractions of this historical, walled city. On the return journey, we leave Scarborough again by steam heading towards York before continuing on the same route, calling at the same stations before arriving back in Carnforth.

I wonder what locomotive they mean. What is there currently certified for the main line that wouldn't have, say, the Bluebell, falling about laughing at that description?

If they feel justified turning out British India Line named as Bodmin why wouldn't they turn out the 8F as Puffing Billy, though black livery plus the TOPS number on the cabside might give the game away.

It's either that or the NRM have gifted them Rocket as a non-essential exhibit.

Same wording is used on the WCR website page for these trains. The picture shows 46115. Maybe it's a lot older than we thought - in other words, the Rebuilt Scots were rebuilt from Original Scots which were rebuilt from.......which were rebuilt from.........

Another thought: the wording is "Pick up one of the oldest steam engines in the world" Maybe 46115 isn't quite so old but instead of the usual WCR diesel shovage, on the rear, the train is going to get a Rocket.

It's a misprint - should have said "one of the oddest Steam engines in the world"

Nice one! I'm travelling from York to Carlisle and back on the Dalesman on Monday so I'll have to check out what comes on at Hellifield!

Well, this was attached at Hellifield yesterday when the Class 47 diesel was detached. A very wet Appleby but at least it was dry at Carlisle. I'm no expert but 46115 seemed to perform very well and looked good, certainly not odd, or that old either!

Nice photos, especially the "atmospheric" one at Hellifield!
I was out a couple of weeks back at Scout Green and Kirkby Stephen, but unfortunately my photos didn't turn out well due to a lens fault.

Always nice to see Scots Guardsman though - A fine machine!

Not had on my pedant's hat for a while, but WCR would be well advised to get someone more competent with the English language to write their flyers.:(
