This recreated halt on the GWSR is due to open on June 6th. This superb volunteer project has been very well covered in a BlogSpot linked from the main GWSR website.

Perhaps the GWSR marketing people might be interested in the fact that English Heritage are opening a new small museum at Hailes Abbey on 30th June. ( www.english-heritage.org.uk/hailesabbey)

I assume that the GWR spelling was an original error when the halt was first opened!

Indeed a fantastic job! Not so much a spelling error but both were in common usage at the time I believe. As was want with the GWR they picked one spelling and the other persisted!

Hayles Abbey halt was opened today, with a recreation of the famous photograph of the Coffeepot drawing in. A small number of passengers wait to board the auto train to Cheltenham.
Sadly, we didn't manage to get the water spilling from the tanks, but it did spill from the heavens.
It was a great day for us nonetheless.

What can our Heritage Group do next?

Why wear a vis vest on a platform?
Especially on a high profile day.

It may well be the only waterproof said volunteer had, it has been an absolutely miserable day here weather wise!

    Looks great.
Presumably it was originally a two platform halt?

Congratulations on a superb result and it looks very authentic given modern constraints on platform construction etc. It was never in the new-born GWSR's original plan to have a halt rebuilt here and so to see one appear is quite remarkable and a testament to the Railway's maturing sense of authenticity given 21st Century requirements. Your next project, whatever it is, will be an impressive one regardless of size. The GWSR really does need a rolling stock storage shed though.

Good to see the railway get some publicity, next to the fun we had.
